WE ahve a springer but he just has free run of the garden - which is a bone of contention in this house as it means dd can never play in the back garden

They bark and sit by the door when they need to go out. They could bark for ages so if they have an accidenh is normally our fault

There is a very good book called "How to housebreak your dog in 7 days", it really works, you can have the dog trained within a week, and once trained the dog can be all around the house and even left on his own without worries of having an accident.

We have fenced off the patio bit outside the back door for the dogs, then a gate into the grass area for yhe kids. We have a field at the back of the garden so dogs run round that.
When we go out ours are in a large crate each with water bowl etc....
If out for too long my mum comes and lets them out for me.

WE need to do something like that magnolia1 as our back garden has become a no go area which is sad as it was one of the reasons we bought our house.

our dog is nrly 4 and he is a staffie. totally housetrained but i dont want the nanny picking up poo on the lawn or kids play area so he

My DH built a huge run for our GSD to save him from my wrath after he ate our kitchen & just dug up garden if left outside. He had the whole garage with bed & radiator + half the patio (so had large shelter & good bit outside.) I work school hours so he was left from 8:30 - 3 each day.

Rarely used now but can't be bothered to take it down. It was made from wood & 1cm mesh wire from Homebase (Stronger stuff than chickenwire).

It saved our dog from being thrown out! He is now very well behaved & can be safely left in house or garden without destroying anything.

I am going to nag dp to do something like this as our dog has wrecked our lawn through pooing, weeing and generally digging it up. He made a huge run for the rabbits at our old house, the principle must be the same.

we have a dog run but it's only for the purposes of going to the toilet. It's about 12 ft by 6ft and is concrete. Dogs are put in it first thing in morning, after their breakfast, and at random times during the day i.e. if I'm going out. And they go to the back door if they need to go out at any other time. It's ve easy to keep clean as you just have to pick up the mess then rince down with bleach/disinfectant and then rince with clean water. Much easier for me to clean as would never be able to find the pooh on the grass, and also much better as ds can play happily in the garden.

My dogs are not allowed to go into the kitchen, unless they are going through to be fed or go out, and they're not allowed to go upstairs. Don't have gates or dividers though - they've learned from early on that it's not allowed, I've had second dog for about 3 months and he learned within the first week that he wasn't allowed upstairs - I just sent him down every time he came up and he soon got the message. Same with the kitchen - if they come in they're sent out straight away.

I have a 8mth old golden lab bitch (and she is a *** to) last month my husband had to build her a fence due to the fact we are giving her 1/3rd of the (small) garden because I was getting so down about the fact she was doing her number two's all over the garden and I have to children ds6 and ds4.
It work's really well, but then she started helping herself to food in the kitchen so we have set back up a babyden (we have brought 4 extra bits due to her getting bugger) playpen which we brought her when she was just 7 weeks old which was a god send, that's working well to!
