Avoiding quarantine for a cat entering UK, anyone got experience of this?

We are in Singapore and are apparently permitted to bring our cat back with us on the 'plane (Hold no 1) if he has been microchipped, innoculated against rabies and has the blood test to prove it, plus an anti-tapeworm pill 24-48 hours before departure.
My problem is that we got given short notice of our return and need to be back in the UK by Christmas.
I got the microchipping and first rabies injection done on Monday, and will take him back in 30 days for the blood test and a booster. It says the blood test has to be done 6 months before entry. Will they keep the cat in quarantine for the remainder of the 6 months when we get back to the UK, or will he have to do 6 months? Any helpful answers gratefully received!
