QuietNinjaChristmasSpecial Fri 14-Dec-12 08:15:11

Have signed.

BOFingSanta Fri 14-Dec-12 08:22:19

I saw this last night- I am DISGUSTED at the thought of him picking up a fat check while he whines about how he was fitted up.

Channel Five are repulsive: they've only invited him because he's famous as a 'wife-beater', because his star as a comedian was definitely on the wane.

Yoghurty Fri 14-Dec-12 08:27:56

Signed and bumping.

openerofjars Fri 14-Dec-12 08:31:57

Signed. What a disgusting idea. I don't watch it anyway but they really have hit a new low with this one.

splintersinmebum Fri 14-Dec-12 09:30:18

He wasn't a wife beater; his wife testified that he had never been abusive to her.

Not saying that he wasn't utterly vile to Anna Larke but, given that she chose to have a relationship with a married man who had young children, I think her family should lay low and not try taking the moral high ground by starting a petition.

QuietNinjaChristmasSpecial Fri 14-Dec-12 09:37:19

He admitted slapping her. How is that not abusive? Would it only be abuse if he punched her?

CuddlyBlanket Fri 14-Dec-12 09:46:05

He abused that woman wrong and vile.

That woman was party to ending a marriage that had children and hurting innocent people wrong and vile.

I agree the woman and her family should but out.

I resent JLC getting a cheque from Ch5 at the end of the day he has children to support if his fee went fully to his kids and any of his comments on the woman he abused or his opinion on DV were cut it would help.

BOFingSanta Fri 14-Dec-12 13:21:29

I was being colloquial. He is disgusting, and chose to shag around himself. Implying that the woman deserved to be treated like that because he was married is ridiculous. I doubt his kids want for money- the fee should go to Women's Aid. But Channel Five are vile to give him to time of day and get viewers on the back of his notoriety. I never want to see his mush on telly ever again.

tiredemma Fri 14-Dec-12 13:23:01

Ive always found him really unpleasant to look at.

His podgy belly always hanging over his jeans. And his hair...well, that deserves a thread of its own.

MayTheOddsBeEverInYourFavour Fri 14-Dec-12 13:24:47

Sleeping with a married man is not illegal, abusing someone physically is so I don't think you can compare the two at all

Has someone honestly just said that it isn't abuse because he didn't hit a different woman and because he was having an affair? hmm

He was convicted.

BettySuarez Fri 14-Dec-12 17:00:31

Signed - horrible sad

ElephantsAndMiasmas Fri 14-Dec-12 17:40:26

Signed, thanks for posting this nancerama.

Rindercella Fri 14-Dec-12 17:45:38

I signed this yesterday - because you had linked to it on FB Bof.

In no way should Anna Larke's family now butt out hmm He abused her. He was found guilty of abusing her. Why should he now court publicity and earn a substantial amount of money on the back of that? Regardless of how their relationship started, Anna Larke should not have to endure hearing him justify what he did to her every night on TV?

blondietinsellyminx Fri 14-Dec-12 17:57:28

And what BOF said.

jinglebellyalltheway Fri 14-Dec-12 18:01:28

[shocked] that posters are seeming to imply that because HE got into a relationship with a woman while HE was married, she and her family have less right to be outraged when he abused her! [shocked][shocked]

no abuse isn't "worse" if it's to the wife not the mistress/girlfriend! FFS!

Rindercella Fri 14-Dec-12 18:03:34

Exactly jinglebelly.

God, I think my belly could be awfully jingly at the moment. blush

MamaMary Fri 14-Dec-12 18:15:45

Have signed.

Pantomimedam Fri 14-Dec-12 22:43:16

Appalling that Channel 5 even thought about this. Have they learned nothing from Savile? Or are they so stupid they don't see that abuse is wrong, whether the victim is a child or an adult?

NativityNo Fri 14-Dec-12 22:53:15

Jellykat Fri 14-Dec-12 23:29:42

Letting him appear on CBB would make his behaviour sociably acceptable.

ArtexTheHallWithBoughsOfMonkey Fri 14-Dec-12 23:41:13

I signed it too. This is bullshit.

Darkesteyes Sat 15-Dec-12 00:48:19

Signed. And i agree with jinglebelly.

ThatBlokesANutter Sat 15-Dec-12 00:55:06

He was convicted

This man subjected her to a sustained campaign of emotional abuse. That is just as terrifying, bewildering and CRIMINAL as punching someone repeatedly in the face. The things he did were designed to control and bully her.

And again i say... he was convicted. There is NO DOUBT over what he did.

And, for that reason, he should not be financially rewarded.

ThatBlokesANutter Sat 15-Dec-12 00:57:14

Oh, and the way he used her problems with alcohol to try and slur her and paint himself as the victim.

I believe she is/was having problems with alcohol. Totally irrelevant to anything at all. But he gave that one a good go.

PieEyedAndLairySanta Sat 15-Dec-12 02:41:58

Signed. Sickening that Channel 5 would do this but unfortunately doesn't surprise me.

tiredemma Sat 15-Dec-12 09:21:16

not only the alcohol- also trying to insinuate that because she self harmed (ergo PD) then she couldn't possibly be telling the truth.

flippinada Sat 15-Dec-12 10:42:02

Signed - and I'm pleased to say quite a few of my friends have signed too. Disgusting.

flippinada Sat 15-Dec-12 10:42:41

Disgusting that channel 5 are even considering this, I mean to say.

Signed and disgusted at Channel 5. But also appalled at the people on here saying somehow the abuse is her fault because she had an affair with him when he was still married. So he didn't have an affair when he was married and a father? Therefore it's OK for him to have subjected her to a tirade of emotional and psychological abuse. He was fucking convicted of the crimes he committed!

IceTheChristmasKateMumsnet (MNHQ) Sat 15-Dec-12 14:29:50

Hi everyone,

We're going to move this to petition in a mo, as that's the best place for it.

Jellykat Sat 15-Dec-12 21:13:55

uptheamp Sat 15-Dec-12 21:16:42

i will be a lone voice but i have no objection about him appearing on cbb

in fact, i would like to hear his side of the story

they gave it to michael barrymore, can't see the difference

let him speak

elfyrespect Sat 15-Dec-12 21:29:42

I'm appalled he's being considered.
I can't bear to hear him on that Ooops TV one.

Those phone recordings she got of him were just horrible.

elfyrespect Sat 15-Dec-12 21:32:54

The last online petition I signed from a link on here: I keep getting spam e-mails now and e-mail requests to sign other petitions. It is a bit of a pain.
I hope this doesn't start up a load more of that malarky though.

Pantomimedam Sat 15-Dec-12 21:45:48

uptheamp - he had the chance to give 'his side of the story' in court. And was convicted. There were recordings played in court of him ranting at his girlfriend - chilling. If you want to hear his side of the story, look up the news coverage at the time. You don't need to encourage Channel 5 to pay a criminal tens of thousands of pounds and give him hours of exposure on prime time TV to hear his side of the story.

ThatBlokesANutter Sun 16-Dec-12 00:20:40

uptheamp - Umm, he gave his side of the story in court. Every day for weeks. Because it was a crock of shit, hsi 'side of the story ' got him convicted.

Rindercella Sun 16-Dec-12 13:40:29

I don't think Michael Barrymore was ever convicted of a criminal offence was he?

Lee Collins had his chance to tell 'his side of the story' - in court.

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn Sun 16-Dec-12 13:44:46

I can't see the problem myself. Most "celebrities" who appear simply make themselves look like complete and utter twats. I don't see why he would be any different.

ApuskiMcClusky Mon 17-Dec-12 18:33:45

Have signed.

Yoghurty Wed 19-Dec-12 16:50:45

Don't know if anyone else has seen, but I received an email saying that the petition had been successful and that JLC will now not be appearing on the show.

Well done everyone who added their named to the petition.

msrisotto Wed 19-Dec-12 16:55:46

His side of the story will be nothing but lies. He was convicted. We don't need to hear his bullshit.
I agree with Jinglebelly too, and i have signed the petition.

QuietNinjaChristmasSpecial Wed 19-Dec-12 18:05:38

I received that too yogurty and read the link. I'm pleased.

Jellykat Wed 19-Dec-12 19:43:47

So pleased he's withdrawn from the show!

msrisotto Thu 20-Dec-12 08:21:30

Oh good.

BOFingSanta Thu 20-Dec-12 08:23:41

Wow, how fantastic- a petition that actually made a difference! Great, I'm really pleased.

Pantomimedam Thu 20-Dec-12 14:18:22

I'm pleased but confused - some online sources are saying he turned down the offer. I don't think it should be up to him, I think TV stations and programme makers should refuse to employ the nasty little criminal bully. (Didn't get an email from the petition organiser, should I have done?)

MamaMary Thu 20-Dec-12 16:46:56

I got an email saying he claimed his decision was nothing to do with the petition, but the organisers still think it played a role.

Agree that it should have been the TV station that refused him, not the other way round sad
