Just going to school, can condemn your child a death sentence, due to Asbestos, in the majority of British schools:

This title may sound over-exaggerated, but it is very, very true. Asbestos exposure is fatal, as it causes incurable, agonising mesothelioma, an inflammation of the lung's lining. Asbestos also causes lung cancer, which also means death in most cases. But the UK government refuses to act and remove all asbestos, instead leaving teachers and pupils to contract the illnesses.

Asbestos is found in 75% of British schools, that's 7 million school children, and teachers, at risk of Asbestos exposure. At risk, of a painful, premature death. This MUST stop.
Parents have been kept in the dark about Asbestos for too long, as the government brush the effects of the fatal substance under the carpet.

Now you have read this post, please do your duty as a parent, whatever part of the world you live in, whatever school your child goes to - protect your children, and millions of children and teachers nationwide by signing this petition: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/protect-our-children-and-teachers-from-asbestos-exposure-in-schools

Please, do your duty as a parent, and protect the lives of millions of children across Britain. Thank you.

Pretty sure it's only dangerous if you start messing about with it.

Mostly because it is.

It's not only in schools but homes, hospitals, shops and millions of other buildings too. So we must all keep our children in sealed containers and gas masks.

Or a previous posters have pointed out, asbestos is not a risk until you start knocking it about or cutting it up.

Absolutely not, asbestos degrades over time, meaning it will break down more easily in future - just pinning pictures to asbestos walls can cause incurable disease - it needs removing.

agree, it is only dangerous if you drill into it
there is asbestos in hospitals and ALL sorts of buildings.

Asbestos is not a risk unless it's messed with e.g. drilled into. They will always check before drilling in buildings over a certain age. You are scaremongering with a poor grasp of facts.

And now I've read your thread again, you've pissed me off by telling me to 'do my duty as a parent' Hmm

So just leave it to chance? leave it to chance that a child will knock into a asbestos wall? leave it to chance that another 250+ teachers will die because of asbestos?

What a naive post! You do realise that there is asbestos everywhere, not just in schools! If you were to totally eradicate asbestos from every school in the land our children still wouldn't be safe. Huge numbers of homes have asbestos, churches, scout huts, train and tube stations, the houses of parliament, Buckingham Palace, offices, factories, shops..... the list of places which still have asbestos is endless.
Good luck funding it's entire removal from everywhere your child might visit!
Just don't fiddle with it. It's fine if you leave it alone.

Sealed containers I say - it's the only way to keep your child safe.

Where's the evidence that 250+ teachers have died due to asbestos?

Do you really think that bumping into a wall will expose children to asbestos?

So it's ok that my family have died in the past due to asbestos exposure in schools? just because it was messed around with?? This is a serious problem and i will not stand by and watch people die, because the government refuse to remove asbestos.

Asbestos safety in schools is ridiculously rigorous. We literally have to check before stapling something to a wall.
Contractors have to check the asbestos register before doing anything.

And I mean 'ridiculous' in the extreme sense rather than stupid-I'm all do as much asbestos safety as possible. It's nasty stuff

Report
Polyethyl · 15/07/2016 18:56

Do you read the asbestos survey for every building your child visits?
