Does every primary teacher need it? Is it not sufficient that there are qualified first aiders in every school? Might it make more sense to have TAs trained so teachers can carry on teaching?

I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, just thinking aloud about whether it is essential. Every positive action you take stops you taking a different positive action. I'd want to be sure this was the best use of schools' money and teachers' time before making it compulsory.

Our school does actually train everybody but I'm not sure I think it's essential. I do wonder if it's better to have a few people trained in more depth who keep their skills up to date and get to use them regularly?

Secondary teachers are also looking after groups of 30 children on their own, why are you only concerned with primary?

My PGCE did include first aid training.
