I have already posted this in lone parents but there is more traffic here.

At 10,000 signatures the government will respond to the petition and at 100,000 signatures the petition will be considered for debate in parliament.

We are quite a way off 100,000 signatures but I'm sure it can be done. Be sure to sign and share on FB, Twitter and via email. Don't let the non-payers get away with it!

I am not defending them for a moment. But I don't want to see imprisonment for debt brought back. And if they are in prison they can't pay.

Heart says yes but head says no.

Yes but we have a petitions topic to prevent multiple postings like this - we'll move this to our topic and delete your duplicates

Thanks

I just came onto the Noticeboard to share this petition so I am glad it's here already! Have shared everywhere I can. I am not sure that imprisonment is the way forward, however, it is clear that more needs to be done to prevent maintenance avoiders from continuing to do so. I do receive maintenance but it is pitiful and given my ex-h's "lifestyle", the dreadful financial situation he left the kids and I in and the steps he's taken to avoid being held accountable, I'd love to see "men" like him held responsible for the children they helped to create and then abandoned. OP, have you shared this on Twitter too?

As long as it is re-worded so that the non-resident parent has the right to become the resident parent instead. Ie either pay or become resident parent.
