Mums unite! One minute NHS saving action plan....

Following the appalling events of Friday 11 March (see link at the bottom), take this one minute action plan and save your NHS tonight!
We need proper parliamentary debate as outlined in the NHS reinstatement bill. This was put forward on Friday but most MPs DIDNT EVEN TURN UP!

This is not a done deal. This government does not have the mandate to sell and dismantle our NHS!

Let them wake up to our anger! Let us not have to explain to our children WHY we didn't act.
One minute NHS saving action plan!

If you have one minute....

  1. Sign the following petition "Vote of no confidence in Jeremy hunt." He needs to resign. He's grossly incompetent. If 10000 sign a petition, the government will respond. If 100000 people sign, a parliamentary debate is considered. This has 327000 signatures and is awaiting a debate date.

    petition.parliament.uk/petitions/121152

If you have one minute more.....

  2. Email your MP asking where on earth they were on Friday. Make it clear to your MP that the NHS bill is not going away, and that the debate should receive emergency rescheduling this week.

    Find your MPs email address:
    //www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

    Email them:
    For example, Dear MP,
You must act to represent me by supporting the NHS bill debate and effect positive change within the NHS.
/I was horrified that..../you did not attend....
    It is imperative that.....

    If you have another minute.....

  3. Pledge £1 to the BMA legal challenge on doctors contracts:

    //www.crowdjustice.co.uk/case/nhs/

  4. Join 38 degrees. They have integrity!

    home.38degrees.org.uk

Lastly share this post/email/tweet with your family and friends

    Thankyou! Dr gillian myers GP

Yawn. Go post someone relevant

You think it's not relevant that the NHS is being dismantled? Hmm Its the think edge of the wedge, admittedly, but that's where the government are trying to take it. I presume you can afford private health care, from your posts. But what about everyone else?

Thanks for moving me and apologies for "spamming the boards" I have never posted before and am new at this! I am a doctor and I am a mum of two wee boys. I post on mumsnet because you are mums! You care! I have always been impressed by the honest heartfelt communication on this site. There's no mincing with words. As a mum, I urge you to take the above action, because your MPs are selling off your NHS this very week. I am not saying that the NHS is perfect but today it is still the fairest and best healthcare system in the world. Don't believe me? Then believe the world health organisation. There are millions of people worldwide who can only dream of basic antenatal care and childhood vaccinations like we have. Think how hideous it was last time your children were sick! And then imagine a much worse standard of care that you paid for and that's where we are headed if we don't act today.
If you've never voted, if you don't know who your MP is, this is the perfect time to find out! if you think it won't make a difference, think again! Read some of the links and then tell your MPs how you feel. They are mostly middle aged men who mostly don't even use the NHS at this stage in their lives and have forgotten who took care of them when they were were born, who has vaccinated them etc. Back the NHS reinstatement bill, call for Jeremy hunt to resign. There are a few hundred of them and millions of us! If each MP wakes up to a 1000 angry emails tomorrow morning, they will start listening because they will be scared! simple as that. Help your mums and grandmas to use the Internet to do this too. People need us to help them act because lots of people who really really need and value it are elderly or are sick right now! Leave the washing up, serve something from the freezer, sod the washing. This is too important! Do it today! You might have a few mins now before the school run?

I know where my MP was on Friday, he was in my local cafe, hogging the best table Angry

OP I agree with your sentiments about Jeremy Hunt but am agog at 'Leave the washing up, serve something from the freezer, sod the washing. This is too important! Do it today! You might have a few mins now before the school run?'

Are you trying to be controversial to get attention? PLEASE tell me yes...

The NHS generally - or just in England? Just so I know whether or not to sign Wink

It's under threat everywhere but there are differences between different UK countries especially the implementation of junior doctors contract.

What's with all the Reads? Why don't you just take the time to summarise? I'm too busy with the washing up, the washing and the cooking to Read.

You're not really a doctor are you?

I've just looked clicky link for petition

The petition is for Parliament to
Consider a vote of No Confidence in Jeremy Hunt, Health Secretary

Mr Hunt recently gave totally inappropriate advice to Google conditions before seeking medical opinion. He referred to Paramedics as Ambulance Drivers and has caused the first Doctors strike in years of the NHS. Mr Hunt is destroying all staff morale in the NHS & will cause recruitment issues.

I don't understand the relationship between what Hunt does and the NHS in Scotland. SirC, you'll have a much better grasp of direct - and indirect - effects.

But obviously Scottish MPs would be able to vote in a no confidence motion in Westminster.

Summary from the Independent article from Nov 2015 linked above,

Tory health minister deliberately blocks law to give NHS cheap drugs when patents expire

A Conservative health minister has deliberately blocked a new law to provide cheap and effective drugs for the NHS by championing medicines whose patents have expired.

Alistair Burt spoke for nearly half an hour to “filibuster” the proposed Off-Patent Drugs Bill, a plan that had cross-party support from backbenchers.

(Lots of people on the EU referendum threads very concerned that EU legislation may be bad for the NHS.

So will doubtless be very concerned about UK legislation being bad as well.)

Thank you - much more helpful than Read

Report
PausingFlatly · 14/03/2016 15:28

I'm finding the links quite helpful, so am glad to have them.

The Campaign for the NHS Reinstatement Bill www.nhsbill2015.org only directly affects England, IIUC.

Specifically it's about NHS England which is being broken up and sold off (result of the Health and Social Care Act 2012).

But presumably the knock-ons on the other nations are significant, given mobility between them.

Some material on that link refers to trying to get the vote out for last Friday, which now obviously needs to be updated.

But there's also a heads-up about changes to government instructions to English Clinical Commissioning Groups, www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-commissioners-ensuring-the-continuity-of-healthcare-services , which will make it easier for NHS Foundation Trusts to stop providing some services.

Report
PausingFlatly · 14/03/2016 15:34

The change to the instructions is completely expected, BTW.

Things unacceptable to the electorate are always eased through in stages.

Stage 1: change the law, but tell everyone they can't complain because nothing on the ground has changed.

Stage 2: change things on the ground, but tell everyone they can't complain because the (new) law hasn't changed.

Job done.
