Please can everyone sign this.

Apparently there are plans for the Government to stop supporting Liberia financially in March next year. If this does happen then the people of Liberia may have to start paying for their own healthcare. Liberia is one of the worlds poorest countries and needs our ongoing support.

Please can everyone sign this.

But surely as the country is currently providing free Healthcare, which may not continue if Aid is stopped, it can't be that corrupt! Funds are surely reaching where they need to go!

Hi all,

Thanks to those who brought this to our attention - we're going to move this to our petition topic.

Have to agree with Kiss as a national of a country with the desperately corrupt government it is so sad to see their days extended by artificial injections of money... sad

Does anyone actually have any proof that Foreign Aid doesn't work?

Viviennemary Sat 27-Jul-13 13:23:18

I have become increasingly sceptical about foreign aid. As it often does not even help the people it is meant to and only lines the pockets of corrupt officials. Maybe there is good reason for the government's decision to stop sending aid there. And I think if you put this in chat then people who disagree are entitled to respond.

Somethingyesterday, I am not staggeringly rich, what an odd thing to say. You are missing the point.

Regardless of my personal financial situation, I resent taxes being spent on making corrupt governments richer and therefore more powerful. Foreign aid doesn't alleviate poverty, it makes it worse.

I am not against helping the world's poorest nations, that would be selfish. I am simply pointing out foreign aid doesn't work. There needs to be a rethink in how we help other nations.

Ok apologies for telling people to keep their opinions to themselves, I just get frustrated by this type of attitude. I did come across a document that showed the importance of foreign aid - will find the link

Somethingyesterday Sat 27-Jul-13 10:23:17

.....heathen

You must be staggeringly rich!

Do tell just how much of your taxes have been expended in Liberia in the past year.

Has the loss made a very big difference to you? sad

kissmyheathenass Sat 27-Jul-13 10:20:43

Sorry, crossed posts op.

Blimey Heidihole - that's a nice attitude.

Wonder how much you actually give to charity and how many hours you spend volunteering.

kissmyheathenass Sat 27-Jul-13 10:19:49

Forgetful, why would I report you? Grow up

Forgetfulmog Sat 27-Jul-13 10:19:27

My reply was to Soulsister who said I had posted in the wrong topic.

Bowlersarm Sat 27-Jul-13 10:18:11

Why do you want to be reported?

42notTrendy Sat 27-Jul-13 10:18:04

Does anyone have a link to information about why the govt are considering stopping sending aid? Would be useful to have more information.

Forgetfulmog Sat 27-Jul-13 10:17:21

Report me then!

kissmyheathenass Sat 27-Jul-13 10:16:47

Forgetful, you have no place telling me to keep my comments to myself ffs. A that how to shut down debate with anyone who doesn't agree with you?

HeySoulSister Sat 27-Jul-13 10:16:20

op this shouldn't even be in chat.....'petitions' have their own topic....tucked away somewhere

ThreeMusketeers Sat 27-Jul-13 10:14:53

As foreign aid is mis-spent and doesn't reach it's intended recipients, I support ending foreign aid to Liberia.

kissmyheathenass Sat 27-Jul-13 10:14:25

Ok, for those of you slating my negativity, do you honestly think foreign aid goes to this in need in Liberia? by sending foreign aid we are giving the wealthy and corrupt more money. It's throwing petrol on the proverbial fire. I don't like my taxes going to a corrupt government in Liberia.

Bowlersarm Sat 27-Jul-13 10:11:03

I don't think that people posting negative (but correct) facts should have to be silenced should they? People shouldn't sign petitions unless they know the consequences of what they are signing.

HeySoulSister Sat 27-Jul-13 10:08:15

its a public forum.....nobody has to keep anything 'to themselves'!!

Forgetfulmog Sat 27-Jul-13 10:06:02

Maybe we should just cut foreign aid completely, let the bastards suffer eh?sad

Surely if the country was not corrupt then they probably wouldn't need foreign aid anyway! This is just like the deserving & undeserving poor isn't it?

Anyway like I said, sign or don't sign, whatever, just keep your negative comments to yourself

Somethingyesterday Sat 27-Jul-13 09:59:35

hmm

You think aid should only go to countries where all the facts are positive?
