Email from boss today - "Scotslass and myself will be attending the group meeting. Please forward any questions"

It's "Scotslass and I", for goodness sake! (It is, isn't it . . .?)

You're right - it still has to work if you remove the 'Scotslass and' bit, so you wouldn't say 'myself will be attending the group meeting'.

This drives me insane - manager-type person the other day pointlessly reiterating the history of the monumental cock-up (theirs!) that I was phoning AGAIN to sort out told me that "I see we had a call from yourself" on [date]..." and "You would have received a letter from ourselves dated [date]..."- aaarrrgghh!

I suppose people think it sounds more formal or something like that? Bah.

Sorry for late post...

AAAAAAAAAAAAH! This drives me mad.

"We got a letter from yourselves"

Although, tbh, I'm not sure of the correct use of myself/ yourself/ ourselves.

I agree! It drives me mad too - also people who try to be ultra correct and say

"Would you like to come and meet with my colleague and I on 20th June?"

ME ME ME ME ME!!! How hard is it to get right? You'd never say "Would you like to come and meet with I on 20th June?"

I think people have it drilled into them not to say "James and me went to the park" and they get programmed into never saying "and me".

They even get that wrong on "Location3": "with Phil and I" sounds so WRONG from the well-spoken Kirstie A!

There seem to be an awful lot of people who think 'myself' or 'yourself' is somehow more polite or formal than 'me' or 'you'. No idea why but it does grate.

Ohhh couldn't agree more. Hate it when (usually young) girls in shops say things like " I'll put that in a bag for yourself" etc. Arrgghh!

ooh - glad it's not just me that gets cross about this
I think you're right - they think it should be "myself" or whatever because it sounds posher - really grates on me
