Its a PackED lunch.

(61 Posts)

All those threads at the start of the new school year recently. All those mentions of making 'a pack lunch' or 'pack lunches'.

When you are making the lunch, you pack it, into the lunchbox.

When all the contents are in, its a PACKED lunch.

Never thought of that smile I say pack lunch but would write packed lunch

IHatePingu Fri 18-Oct-13 12:05:18

It's neither. It's a pack up lunch. ;)

OinkGlitter Fri 18-Oct-13 12:08:25

Here, it's just a pack up.

MortifiedAdams Fri 18-Oct-13 12:09:44

Pack up

crabb Fri 18-Oct-13 12:10:19

The same applies to 'Box Set'. It's a boxed set thank you very much.

In my house it's a case of "oh just have a school lunch today"smile

When I was in primary school I had a Postman Pat lunch box and was convinced for years it was called a Pat lunch blush

TooTabooToBOOOOO Fri 18-Oct-13 12:16:10

Oh thank god, Yoni - thought I was the only one who did that! grin

With you, sister.

My boss refers to the 'share drive' on the computer. ShareD drive, shareD drive, shareD drive.

Past Participle Protection Now! Then!

OinkGlitter Fri 18-Oct-13 13:37:02

I disagree re box set though. That's a set in a box. A packed lunch isn't a a lunch in a pack. It's a lunch in a Postman Pat box.

Shall we start on text/texted again?

LegoAcupuncture Fri 18-Oct-13 13:38:53

Does this fall into the same category as "Chester draws"?

flowery Fri 18-Oct-13 13:43:15

Love Pat box! grin

flowery Fri 18-Oct-13 13:43:26

I mean Pat lunch...!

crabb Fri 18-Oct-13 13:50:18

A box set would be a set of boxes, surely. Not DVDs or whatever.

OinkGlitter Fri 18-Oct-13 13:59:03

Dunno, crabb. Am trying to think of other 'sets' to compare with but drawing (chester drawing) a blank. Can only manage gift set and train set, which to my mind don't support your argument or mine! (Though are probably closer to yours...)

Cooroo Fri 18-Oct-13 19:53:44

I think the OP got off very lightly missing an apostrophe in the title of a thread in Pedants' Corner!

MortifiedAdams Sat 19-Oct-13 00:33:04

Toiletry Bag......surely 'toiletries bag'?

Elsiequadrille Sat 19-Oct-13 01:09:16

Oho yes, missing apostrophes. smile

It might just be a short form people use/say, not necessarily incorrect.

BigArea Sat 19-Oct-13 01:23:03

Is this the wrong time to mention my ire regarding so-called 'female toilets'? Gah

OinkGlitter Sat 19-Oct-13 01:26:32

Female toilet's?

<kidding!>

UnicornsNotRiddenByGrownUps Sat 19-Oct-13 03:40:30

I say packed lunch! I hate seeing threads about Pack Ups..... Pack UP what?

You know what really gives me the rage though... 'draw' instead of 'drawer'. Just no.

OinkGlitter Sat 19-Oct-13 03:52:11

Unicorn, you're not from Yorkshire, are you? It's just how it is.

ohmymimi Sat 19-Oct-13 14:27:30

There is so much in this thread that has not tweaked me before my blood-pressure is going to suffer.

ohmymimi Sat 19-Oct-13 14:30:33

Love the 'Pat' lunch, though.smile
