Hello, my DS is 1 on 3rd July and I want to go to our local pub (as smoking ban will be on then), as I do not know anyone with children, and then I dont need to buy any drink as i am quite poor but want to actually celebrate my DS been born, as we havent yet.

My mum says we cant afford to do that, but i'm confused as to why we cannot, i wasnt going to have any food, as noone i know will stay longer than 20 mins (i dont have a lot of friends).

What should i do? I could have family over at the house for a bbq/food then a walk over to the pub?

Help please!!!

If you want to celebrate, why not just have a birthday cake and ask family round to see him try to blow out the candle? NO need to go the expense of BBQ food. Or if you want to offer food, some sandwiches and crisps would be cheaper than BBQ. Offer squash and tea/coffee rather than alcohol.

If you want to go to the local pub and feel you would be happy taking your ds there - you do what makes you happy. I live in a village and my dcs have been regulars at the village pubs since they were born and I see nothing odd about it!

thanks. I do take DS to pubs sometimes, it is the only way we spend time with the P sometimes. But with it being smoking ban we wont have to worry about it being smoky/whatever.

I just want anexcuse to have a little celebration. The past year has been bad. I have PND really quite bad and its my birthday on the 12th June and I know no one wants to celebrate that!

Why not try a "bring a dish" get together? It does not have to be anything grand, just a sandwich/sausage rolls/crisps buffet style.

Or a bring your own booze party.

GO TO THE PUB!!! DS won't care what you do and you sounds like you need something to cheer you up!

I think the pub sounds a lovely idea. If thw weather is nice you can sit outisde. Does it have swing or anything for kids?

Bring a dish is an excellent idea thats what we did for our engagemnet party and we ended up with a really lovely spread that didnt cost hardly anything. Remember it is your special day with your ds do what you want and enjoy it

Hey Anoush, I hope your party goes well for your DS, and I'll be thinking of you on the 12th too, wishing you happy birthday. My DD is nearly 1, and it's an up and down time, I agree. Have a good time with your lovely new person and enjoy seeing his face as he eats his CAKE! Well done for being a mum!
