Superhero party, 5 y/o boys - good or mad idea?

DS (rising 5) would dearly love to have a superheroes party for his 5th.
Will it just turn into a lot of testosterone fuelled posturing and bad/ competetive behaviour? DS has some particularly "lively" friends and is unlikely to want to invite girls to add an element of calm. 4th "pirate" birthday party was quite challenging.
Has anyone done this? Any tips?
Should I persuade him to have a space party instead.
Party will be in June, at home/ in garden with about 8 guests.

Ds has been invited to a superhero party (a 4th) sounds hideous to me - he doesn't even know what a superhero is.

Excellent idea! I hope you have lots of space.

I think it will be fine. Just pop lots of balls in the garden and those water guns and then stand back. Feed them hot dogs and ice cream and sit back with a glass of cold white wine.

Let them run run run. Don't plan too much... or get DH or any guy really to play some mad games with them. Send them home and thank the Lord that it's over.

Sounds pretty scary to me MarsLady - you must be as chilled as your wine!

Not dure if garden can take too much madness as will be full of crops by then but will consider.

NFB - I abdicate all responsibility for DS knowledge of superheroes - he's never seen any of the programmes. Strangely he once told me that the "only true superhero is SuperNanny" .

It's not that bad. Just had a definite limit on the time. Decide not to stress.... give Dad the big role (sorting any difficulties with the boys) and drink your wine.

Hot dogs and ice cream easy to prepare. Large jugs of water with plastic cups put on a table at the side. Bake a lemon drizzle or chocolate cake and voila! A party!

It's the wine that makes me chilled!

Not sure if DP is up to it esp if he had to wear tights - which you'd have to if you being SuperDad - wouldn't you .

Could he be Mr Incredible - young or old version?
