Shark costume for 3-year-old by hamfisted parents?

DS at 3 wants to be a shark at this weekend's party. All subtle psychological plays to lead him towards being a pirate or anything else easy have failed. I admire him for this.

I am OK with the basic requirements (grey top, grey trousers, mask with teeth, fin) but any ideas about specifics of the last two?

Would you just make a cardboard fin, paint it grey and somehow (how?) attach it to the top, or would you make a fabric fin and stuff it, and then sew it to the top? any ideas?

I can sew, just about, but my reports from school needlework have to be seen to be believed. However, I can use iron-on velcro and safety-pins with the best of them.

Fin- I'd make it out of cardboard, then attach elastic straps to go round his arms like fairy wings from claire's tend to have.

For the mask - maybe just a pointy nose with teeth drawn onto the bottom side, again elastic, this time to hook over the ears.

HTH!
