I know you've admitted you're a control freak so suppose I shouldn't be surprised , but she will be just as happy with any old cake with a candle in the top, or a cake shaped like a 1 (hire a tin) and edged with smarties or chocolate buttons.

The furthest I'd go is to bake a square cake, ice it green, make a fence out of matchmakers if I absolutely felt I had to, add toy cows to make a Field of Cows cake.
Save as much effort as you can - it won't be long till she's 7 and demanding a Fairy Pony Ballet Princess Castle cake...

oh i know mrs badger you are so completely right, and i make the same mistake with my older one (7yo now) and have created such marvels as a swimming pool cake, cats and kittens playing with wool balls, and even did a whole party once where absolutely all the cakes and biccies were home made and decorated into animals, funny faces, and all sorts- i'm the least domestic person on this planet but when it comes to this, i'm somehow driven...its really really wierd...
