Big birthday, great mates, fancy dinner.
Food under control but I'd like to make it special.
Any ideas?

Great ideas Heels.
DH says no one wants champagne throughout except me, he's wrong isn't it?
What are Bon Bon afters? Posh chocs?

How many guests? If there's a sizeable number, make sure everyone sits man/woman, then move all the men round 2 places once or twice during the meal. Means everyone has a chance to chat to different people, and keeps the conversation flowing.

If possible, lanterns or something outside your front door to make an entrance.

Nowt wrong with champers throughout the evening in my book!

14, but 8 women and 6 men.

Lanterns are a lovely idea.

Fireworks? Grown up party bags with mini bottle fizz and posh chocs?

Having champagne and/or wine with dinner. I'd rather drink champagne but others prefer wine, especially if they are big red wine fans or if the main course is meat.
Lots of flowers, our florist will fill your vases & then deliver them - give them a budget & a theme/colours & see what they come up with.

Some great ideas, thanks. Loving the fireworks idea.
Eastpoint DH is the big red wine drinker, but I think we'll have the choice.

I did champagne cocktails on arrival recently and they really helped kick it all off (v strong, involved vodka, grand marnier and elderflower cordial shaken with ice, then top up with champagne or in fact any kind of fizzy wine)- mind you don't do what I did and try a couple before everybody arrived....
