Is this naff? At home cinema night party?

DS is 5 on Friday. We're quite skint but using tesco vouchers to go to legoland on the Saturday. He would like to do something with his friends but I can't afford a lot.

Would 4-5 friends coming over watching a film and having dinner and popcorn be a bit naff? There would be cake!

Not at all! I think it would be lovely and very exciting. Just the fact that there are several of them together off school premises is thrilling for them I've found - it doesn't matter a huge amount what the activity is (and that sounds lovely and quiet as a bonus!)

I am sure they would love it, if they are the type that can sit still. .I would go for it, but be prepared they may just play instead.

What time sounds best? 4-6:30, 4:30-7 or 5-7:30? Or should it just be 2 hours? Trying to figure out how long for cake, film/play and food!

My 4 and 6 year olds would love it :-)

Keep it as early as possible though or some parents will decline due to bedtimes / tiredness.

4-6:30? School finishes at 3:15 so gives them some chance to get changed etc

If you can why don't you pick them up from school (if you walk home for example) and have parents pick them up at 6pm? This usually goes down really well with parents. This kind of activity is great for this age group - they will be soo excited at school! (I tend to try and keep numbers even by the way as from experience I've found that with odd numbers someone always gets left out causing upset.)

I agree with bringing them straight home from school. They will be excited and will want to play with the toys/in the garden, which will give you time to breath and prep things.

We've done this lots of times and my dds have been to lots of parties like that. V popular with adults & children. Only difficult time was when we had 22 6 & 7 year olds over to watch Cars & we had 4 boys in the dog's basket.

I actually do this with adults and we eat on our knees in front of a DVD instead of doing proper grown up dinner parties

Loving the usherette idea! I was going to put hot dogs and chips in cardboard boxes halfway through so it was like a happy meal type affair.
