New Year's Eve menu?

We are having a few people around for New Years, adults and children. Was planning on laying the table out with a buffet and leaving people to pick as and when they want.

So does anyone have any good suggestions of food we can provide? What have you done in the past that's gone down well? Is there any particular food you feel should always be at a party? (It all has to be quick and easy though pleaseGrin. And not sandwiches as I don't fancy making them if I'm honest and also, they only tend to go a bit stale anyway so don't see the pointSmile)

We are having a buffet (salads, cheeseboard, nice breads and antipasti stuff) but also because my mates are gannets I'm doing a giant pot of beef ragu and sticking 16 Yorkshire Puds in 25 mins before I serve up. So we'll all have that and then the buffet for picky bits. Other times have done chilli/stew/sausage casserole plus buffet. Have fun Grin

I've got some leftover salmon from cooking a whole one yesterday, so thinking of doing some thai-style fishcakes and dipping sauce. Might do some cheese straws with leftover puff pastry and christmas cheese too. And we seem to still have loads of carrots, so will crudite them and do a hummus probably.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Think I'll do a ham, some cheese, dips, nice bread, salad etc. I was initially thinking of doing curry or chilli but thought it would be too difficult to keep the rice that would go with it warm.

I'd be wary of kept warm rice on a buffet tbh anyway! But chilli would be good with jacket spuds or bread?

I'm doing a big veggie lasagne, roast peppers (just halved, pop in a spoon of pesto, chunk of feta, half a cherry tom & an olive before shoving in the oven), little puff pastry tarts made with oven roasted veg & the last of the Xmas cheese, & a selection of whatever is on offer in the 'party' section at Morrisons, plus loads of bread, crudites, dips & salads.
