Have you asked his parents? Whilst I always feel money is a bit of cop out, it might be just what they want if they are saving for something e.g. driving lessons/car insurance. My DS was saving for an expedition trip so 18th money was used towards the kit - far more appreciated than a tankard or hip flask!

Experience is a good idea too. What is your budget?
