I'd do something that you and your DH would enjoy and just let DD tag along. She's not really going to know it's her birthday or remember it. You can do a bash for her next year when she'll appreciate it more and have soem friends her own age to share it with. Just my thoughts.

just take her to feed some ducks then
McK is right she's too young to remember anyway.
My dd had her first proper bash for her 4th b'day and enjoyed it.

I think you should do something - have a little family party and a cake, and take lots of photos so you can look back on her 1st birthday. My 2 children love looking at photos of their birthdays, going back so they can see how they've grown.

Is there any kind of bird sanctuary or zoo with loads of birds you could take her to for the day? You could all go with the rellies for the day and have cake when you get back?

thank you everyone for your ideas they are good ones . I think that we will go to the botanical gardens so that she can food the ducks and I have a small party for her there with dh and the rellies will also make her a "duck" cake, have started a birthday and christmas and easter scrapbook for her so will take lots of pics to paste in.

I just had a party for my ds for his 1st birthday last weekend. To be honest, he didn't have a clue what was going on except loads of people were lavishing attention on him! He loved that! I think you should do something that all of you will enjoy and remember...good suggestions here already. And make sure you have photographic mementos for your scrapbook. Best of luck with it and hope you have fun!
