I have been invited to a party for a 2 year old girl and have no idea what present I should get! Can anyone help? I've no idea what sort of thing she would expect (toys? clothes? Or do you ring her mum and ask?) or what sort of amount I should spend.

do you know her well? is she a nursery aquaintance?

I would say a book and spend about £6 if a nursery friend

She's the daughter of a good friend of my DH's. We have a 6 month old baby and I know absolutely nothing about older children at all. A book sounds like a great idea - but what sort? (You can tell I'm really ignorant here, I mean I'm assuming that Wuthering Heights isn't appropriate but beyond that I'm clueless!).
