dd went to school yesterday with no knickers and it was pe. How funny is that.

mumeeee Thu 19-Sep-13 08:46:19

Sorry that"s not funny. You're DD was probably mortified. How old is she?

HPsauceonbaconbuttiesmmm Thu 19-Sep-13 09:07:51

I agree. Not remotely funny.

TwoStepsBeyond Thu 19-Sep-13 09:53:03

I've heard of this several times at DD's school, the kids weren't mortified, they just put their shorts on & went commando!

One of DD's friends came to play and when getting changed into a princess dress realised she was wearing her big brother's pants. Her sister had been one of the knickerless PE kids the previous day, their mum was mortified, but they didn't care!

freephone Thu 19-Sep-13 13:42:09

you re DD was probably mortified.

UR NO she has a sense of humour and thought it was funny. The teachers said at least it shows she is independent. she is 5.

Pagwatch Thu 19-Sep-13 13:43:44

DD did this in pre-prep. Twice . A couple of the girls in her class did.

dontwanttobefatandforty Thu 19-Sep-13 14:13:41

My son used to go without underwear, he had decided underpants were uncomfortable!

steppemum Thu 19-Sep-13 14:46:39

someone in dds reception class did this in the summer term, when she was wearing a summer dress which was a bit short!
teacher got her to put on her pe shorts underneath.

Pretty common I would have thought, and quite funny as long as child doesn't mind!

mumeeee Thu 19-Sep-13 15:13:59

I was just thinking of my youngest DD and I know even at 5 she would have been really upset.

VanitasVanitatum Thu 19-Sep-13 15:18:16

Glad your dd wasn't upset. I can still remember the horror of sitting in morning assembly and realising I wasn't wearing pants. Mortified all day! We were staying at my grans for the week and I think she assumed (fairly!) that I could reliably dress myself aged six or seven..

PeterParkerSays Thu 19-Sep-13 15:22:57

Depends how your DD felt and whhether other kids found out hmm

I still remember the girl in my class at Junior school who came to school in her swim suit as it was swimming first thing, but forgot to put her knickers in her changing bag, and who got chased round the playground by both boys and girls trying to lift her skirt up. sad

littleducks Thu 19-Sep-13 15:31:32

Glad your dad wasn't upset but not very nice for other children or teacher to have to see when she changed

freephone Thu 19-Sep-13 15:59:18

to all who think dd was upset she wasn't and if she was I woulnt be finding it funny and posting it on mumsnet because that would be wrong.
whos dad wasn't upset anyway?????

Pagwatch Thu 19-Sep-13 16:06:04

What the jeff!

Why is a five year old with no pants on 'not very nice for other children or teacher to have to see'. What exactly is offensive about a five year olds bum?

Doingakatereddy Thu 19-Sep-13 16:09:59

Well this threads a bundle of wierd.

Why did you let dd go to school with no knickers, why post it on mumsnet as its plainly not funny, dd may get teased fr years and what in the name of all that is holy is 'not nice' about a kids bum?

Poledra Thu 19-Sep-13 16:14:31

Pag I adore 5-yo DD3's bum. It's all lovely and peachy. Perfect for a squidge (though DH put his cold hands on her bum the other night and she was not amused grin)

Pagwatch Thu 19-Sep-13 16:15:01

I don't think it's unusual actually. Dd was getting herself dressed for school at 4 and I never thought to check she had pants on until she forgot them. Several of her friends did it.
None of them were ever teased, let alone for years.

Pagwatch Thu 19-Sep-13 16:15:56

Getting changed in a hurry after swimming and gym seemed to result in occasional pant omissions too.

Pagwatch Thu 19-Sep-13 16:16:53

Yy. Small bottoms are hard not to like. grin

Poledra Thu 19-Sep-13 16:17:44

I don't think it's unusual either - one of little girls in DD1's class arrived for school on her bike one morning. As she got off her bike, she told her mum that there was something wrong with the bike as her bum was sore. A quick check revealed the lack of knickers which explained the discomfort on the bike. We all thought it was funny...

iloveweetos Thu 19-Sep-13 16:19:01

My DD went to school once with no knickers on. I didnt know until she came back and was getting changed and had someone elses knickers on! I asked her whos they were. and she replied 'my teacher gave them to me because i didnt have any on and she saw when i was sitting down' luckily her teacher did this discreetly.
I was gobsmacked but DD wasnt bothered in the slightest!!!! So now i check EVERY morning!

tallulah Thu 19-Sep-13 16:26:53

Poledra I just spat tea all over the pc (and me) reading your post. Rest of the family are like confused

Poledra Thu 19-Sep-13 16:40:53

grin I trust you were laughing at the commando bike riding, tallulah, and not shocked at my desire to squidge DD3's bottom?

tallulah Thu 19-Sep-13 16:51:31

Yes it was the commando bike riding (but we do the squidgy thing with DD (6) too)

plipplops Thu 19-Sep-13 18:02:41

DD (yr 2) came home from school the other day and said she'd had no pants on all day, think she normally wears clean ones to bed and keeps them on for the next day. Had slept naked the previous night so just forgot in the morning. She's a super sensitive child so I thought she'd be mortified but she didn't seem bothered in the slightest, said she'd told her 2 best friends but they were good at secrets. I think it's really common (and kind of sweet as long as nobody picks on them about it)

We used to have a spare box of kids knickers at the school where I worked, all sizes - it was quite a common occurrence.

freephone Thu 19-Sep-13 22:29:06

ur didn't let her go to school commando. 4 dcs to get ready for school each morning its hectic its messy and its real life. I don't think she will be therapy for years as some of you think. As for it not being nice for other people to see a bum well I hope we are not all so easily offended.

Sindarella Thu 19-Sep-13 22:35:14

hmm My mom had 10 of us to get ready for school, none of us went without pants.

What a strange thing to start a thread about.

PyjamasNotBananas Fri 20-Sep-13 13:47:39

I don't find it funny at all. Yes it's good she's independent. What's not good is that you didn't think to check she had everything on. She's 5 ffs.

Pagwatch Fri 20-Sep-13 15:47:32

Oh utter what bollocks!

Until thy ave gone in with no pants, it doesn't occur to you that they might be fully dressed but with no pants on!

there is some heavy duty sanctemonious lemon sucking on this thread.

randomAXEofkindness Fri 20-Sep-13 16:03:49

Dd never wears knickers (she's 4). They irritate her and she doesn't give a hoot so I've just left it at that. Completely pisses me off when people comment on it. Dn would be mortified though (same age), that makes me sad. If you're ashamed of your body at 4, what chance have you got...

iloveweetos Fri 20-Sep-13 16:07:00

grin pag what can we say..we are terrible mothers!

Editededition Fri 20-Sep-13 16:08:53

You have my sympathy, OP. Some of the critical comments here are a tad unfair.

I have a DD who dedicated a considerable portion of her time (aged 2-4) to removing her underwear. I would make sure she was fully dressed and good to go.....turn around to get my handbag....climb into car ....arrive at nursery....and discover that she had no knickers on. Again!!
- at parties
- the cinema
- PIL's
Everywhere we went, she would find a way to be an underwear free zone on arrival.

She had actually outgrown the phase by the time she went to school, but at the time it seemed never-ending. She tells me now that she finds the small tags in bras and knickers very irritating & itchy, so perhaps that was the problem!
Didn't save my blushes.

morethanpotatoprints Fri 20-Sep-13 16:14:27

Come on OP, not remotely funny.
Some stuffy buggers on here. grin

I think its very funny.

Pagwatch Fri 20-Sep-13 16:19:38

Yep, probably terrible mothers Weetos grin

Charleymouse Fri 20-Sep-13 16:31:53

I once went to work with no knickeers on (unintentionally).

i thought it was funny as did the colleague who lent me some money to go and buy some pants from Woolworths. <Sighs, eeh them were the days when you could get a pair of pants, a record a pyrex jug and pic and mix all under one roof>

eddiemairswife Fri 20-Sep-13 16:33:52

As a 6yr old I was really shocked when we were staying at someone's house and their 2yr old didn't wear knickers. The 1st time my granddaughter and her friend did PE in reception they took off their knickers before they put their shorts on.

Pagwatch Fri 20-Sep-13 16:36:28

My DD spends half her life in a leotard or a swimsuit.
She has a weird technique where she puts the leotard on over her pants and then takes her pants off. It's quite a site.

MagicBaguette Fri 20-Sep-13 22:28:31

Pagwatch it's called The Knicker Trick and its been around for many years!

Pagwatch Sat 21-Sep-13 08:44:01

I now know all the girls do it but I'd never seen it before. It's most peculiar if you haven't seen it before.

DalmationDots Sat 21-Sep-13 14:21:39

DD used to swim for a club from when she was 8, she would put on her swimsuit over her knickers and regularly then forget to do the knicker trick!!

Either she would come onto poolside and I would notice her knickers poking out and dash like a mad woman over to send her back into the changing room, or if I wasn't paying attention, she sadly would have a nasty shock when she got changed after the swimming session!

She never seemed to learn from her mistake, it happened quite a few times...worst was when she did it at school swimming first thing in the morning, she didn't want to tell the teacher and so went knicker-less all day. Silly girl!
