And how old are they?

Trying to work out what is right.

Mine are 4 (nearly 5), 6 and 7. They go to bed at 7pm, 7.30 and 7.30 plus half hour reading in bed.

sonlypuppyfat Thu 20-Jun-13 15:27:22

What time do my kids go to bed? Not early enough! It comes as a massive shock to them that every night they must sleep. Mine are 14 12 and 8 so its 10.30 9.30 and 8.30

flipchart Thu 20-Jun-13 15:29:47

Mine are older but I will answer your question
DS1 is 16 and DS2 is 13 and they go when ever they want.
I don't need to police bed time anymore unless we have to be u excetionaly early next day (e.g to catch a plane)

forevergreek Thu 20-Jun-13 15:32:00

2 and 3 years. Both between 8.30-9pm ( and still nap in day)

MikeLitoris Thu 20-Jun-13 15:34:25

12yo goes at 10pm

9yo goes at 9pm

2yo goea anywhere between 7.45-9pm depending on how she naps during the day.

This is on a school night. Weekends we play it by ear.

Satnightdropout Thu 20-Jun-13 15:34:32

My son goes to bed anytime between 7.30 and 8. I start his bath and whatnot at 7. I know it's quite late for a 2 year old but his nan usually pops round at 7 (she lives 5 seconds away) so I usually let him stay up for her, and he's always good as gold just before and during bedtime so never in a rush to get rid of him, lol. Also, he sometimes doesn't nap until about 2, so if he wakes up at 4 then it's almost as if he wakes up for 5 mins, then packed off back to bed if his bed time is any earlier.

Yonihadtoask Thu 20-Jun-13 15:35:14

We like our sleep in this family.

DS is now 15 so goes to sleep whenever the hell he feels like it hmm
but he always had earlyish bedtimes.

It was 7pm from being a baby until at least 7 or 8 years old.
Then it gradually got a little later - about 9pm by the age of 12/13.

We always had to get up by 6.30am for work/nursery/school so early bedtimes were a must.

mumofthemonsters808 Thu 20-Jun-13 15:38:00

3 year old 7pm on the dot ( no nap during the day).Same at weekends.

11 year old 9pm during the week and 10 at weekends.

Mama1980 Thu 20-Jun-13 15:44:18

Dd 15 whenever she wants really but not later than 10.30ish on a school night.
Ds1 5 has hated sleep his whole life and doesn't seem to need it. He goes to bed generally At about 9.30/10 but is allowed to read etc and still wakes early, he just never seems to tire.
Ds2 6 months feeds every two hours so doesn't really apply.

Chubfuddler Thu 20-Jun-13 15:49:11

DS and DD are 6 and 2. They go up together at 6.45 but DS reads or plays quietly in his room in pjs while I settle dd so she us asleep by about 7.30 and then his stories and cuddles takes his bedtime to 8pm. I'd like them both asleep 30 minutes earlier tbh.

OddBodd Thu 20-Jun-13 16:01:28

Myu 5 year old has always loved his sleep since he was a baby. He seems to get almost ill looking when he's tired. He go up about 7:15 and read and have a chat, lights out at 7:30 and he goes straight to sleep.

DS2 is 17 months and took forever to sleep for more than an hour and half at a time but he now finally and thankfully goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps through til 7:30.

I feel very lucky with both their sleep to be honest.

lljkk Thu 20-Jun-13 16:11:53

Around 9:30-10, age 5-13.

Kendodd Thu 20-Jun-13 19:58:59

Sounds like mine go to bed very early! I thought this was normal though?

IwishIwasmoreorganised Thu 20-Jun-13 20:02:05

5 and 7 and both go to bed at 7pm and sleep until 7am.

It sounds a bit robotic, but they're tired so I can't see any point in changing it yet.

AmandaLF Thu 20-Jun-13 20:02:39

Ds is 12 months and goes to bed between 6-6.30pm. He still naps through the day and wakes between 6 and 7 in the morning.

Kendodd Thu 20-Jun-13 20:07:18

Mine sleep until 7am as well, almost to the dot.

Figgygal Thu 20-Jun-13 20:08:34

18months 7.30 and he is always ready for bed by then!!

IsThatTrue Thu 20-Jun-13 20:11:04

6 and 8, get ready at 6.30 then stories, in bed by 7.15, reading until 7.30 and 8 respectively.

Every night, unless they are exceptionally tired then its moved to 7 and 7.30.

dufflefluffle Thu 20-Jun-13 20:13:57

4 - goes to bed at 7:30
10 - goes to bed at 8:30.
Same every night unless we have visitors staying.
10 yo went to bed (and sleep) at 7pm until the age of 7!
I didn't realise how lucky I was until DC came along and is not so fond of sleep.

Wishihadabs Thu 20-Jun-13 20:15:28

Dd 6 8:30 Ds 9 9 officially often later through. Never needs to be woken for school.

insanityscratching Thu 20-Jun-13 20:22:08

Dd2 who is 10 doesn't seem to need to sleep unfortunately. I send her to bed at 10pm during the week she reads until 11pm or even later. At weekends I go to bed before she does and Daddy generally shepherds her up some time after midnight.
My others, now adults, used to have more normal bedtimes.

Hulababy Thu 20-Jun-13 20:23:28

11y DD - lights off about 9pm. She often goes up a bit before to read.
Weekends and holidays - flexible

BlingLoving Thu 20-Jun-13 20:23:43

Ds 2 goes to bed at about 7:30. Earlier if he has skipped his nap or slept badly the night before, and slightly later if he has had a good long nap during day. He falls asleep either instantly, if he's tired, or will chat to himself for up to 40 minutes if he's not. He tends to sleep until about 7:30 most mornings.

The key thing for us though is that he is getting enough. If he's not, he's cranky and unhappy. And he seems to learn so much more when he sleeps well.

schooldidi Thu 20-Jun-13 20:24:00

Dd1 is 13 and goes off to her room between 8:30 and 9. I don't police when lights go off but it varies by how gripping her book is.

Dd2 is 3 and she's normally asleep by 9. She still naps in the day a lot.

soupmaker Thu 20-Jun-13 20:26:15

DD, 5, goes to bed by 7.30 on school nights. Bit later at weekends if weather is good and playing outside. She sleeps for 11-12 hours every night.

mine don't go to bed, they get sent to their rooms when I want to go to bed but they are 16 and 19 and school is over.

I'm trying to remember when they were younger I didn't get in from work until about 7pm so I would say at the age of 6/7 it would have been about 830pm but that's just a guess my memory is shocking, but they didn't have to get up until 8am school was 2min walk away.

4 year old, almost 5 goes to bed at about 7-7.30, normally asleep by 8.30 if he's not messing around.

1 year old (as of tomorrow) goes at about 7 but doesn't sleep through yet.

I'm quite strict when it comes to bedtime because I want them to have enough energy/focus for things. I don't want to deal with over tiredness as well the usual tantrums.

miffybun73 Thu 20-Jun-13 20:34:00

nearly 3 year old - 7:15/7:30 ish.

Just turned 5 year old - 7:30/7:45 ish.

Both sleep for between 11 and 12 hours. No naps.

MegBusset Thu 20-Jun-13 20:34:19

7 (4yo) and 7.30 (6yo).

devonsmummy Thu 20-Jun-13 20:34:24

Dd is 3 asks for bed between 7-7.30 & takes 15-20minutes to nod off
Ds is 6 & I like him to be in bed by 7.30 - 8pm , he can take upto 45 minutes to get to sleep
Dd will wake when I get up around 7am
Ds needs a bit of persuasion to get up at 7.30
The mums at nursery when ds was there (so age 3-4) used to think I was strict as he was always in bed asleep by 6.30 ... He really needed 12-13 hours sleep though

MoodyDidIt Thu 20-Jun-13 20:36:53

mine are 4 and 7 and go up at 7pm. have done since they were babies.

however they have taking to pissing about for hours playing and chatting for a bit which makes me wonder if its too early

it sounds horrible but by 7pm i just want them out of my hair blush just so me and dh can chill and have some adult time

Ragwort Thu 20-Jun-13 20:37:26

My DS went to bed at 7pm from Day 6 (when we came out of hospital grin) until he was about 9 - barring the odd special occasion or when he had Cubs - I wasn't totally anal about it.

He is 12 now and usually goes to bed around 9pm on school nights - Fridays and Saturdays I am not so worried.

InsanelyBrainDeprived Thu 20-Jun-13 20:40:47

Dc1 who is 3 goes at 8pm. Ds2 20months goes at 7.30 not early enough for us. They usually wake at 7.30/8 and still have two hour nap after lunch

themaltesecat Thu 20-Jun-13 22:52:20

Mine is 2. Asleep by 11pm on a good night.

themaltesecat Thu 20-Jun-13 22:53:03

Mine is 2. Asleep by 11pm on a good night.

defineme Thu 20-Jun-13 23:06:45

If you think your child is messing about at bedtime because they're not tired or you think they're overtired: the nhs website has information on how much sleep each age needs.
obviously there are lots of exceptions that are at the far ends of the scale though.
My 8 yrolds need about 11 hours so 830pm to 730 am and 11 yrold needs about 10 so goes about 930.

MinimalistMommi Fri 21-Jun-13 18:40:23

Five year old: 6.30 pm
Eight year old: 7.00 pm

Taffeta Fri 21-Jun-13 18:42:46

6 yo 7.45pm
9 yo 8.30pm

Recently shifted from 7.30/8.15

Taffeta Fri 21-Jun-13 18:44:05

Oh and wrt guidelines about ow old how much sleep mine vary enormously. DD has always needed about 11 hours. DS since he was 5 hasn't needed more than 9.

RNJ3007 Fri 21-Jun-13 18:47:58

My DD is 4 next week. She goes up for bath at 1845, in bed by 1915, more like 1930-1945 at weekends.

Overreactionoftheweek Fri 21-Jun-13 18:48:53

20 month old - in bed by 5pm and wakes at 6am. He has a two hour nap in the morning.
I feel like I won the lottery grin

He just loves his sleep like me...I'm too scared to have another one yet because I just know that one will be like my brother who didn't sleep through the night until he was 12!

Whenever she wants, she's 11.
She's a night owl like me, but also great at self regulating, and will take herself to bed at 7 if she's tired.
We've had plenty of issues over the years, but never the classics of food and sleep!

Dd is 8 and has always had an 8/9 bedtime - 9 until school age, 8 until recently when we've went back upto 9 as she's getting older.

Ds is 19 months and was bedded at 8, not sleeping until 11 and waking everywhere from 5.45 - 10.30 hmm now his naps have been cut out bed is 6.30/7 till 7 am - i used to be confused at early bedtimes but now covet ds's as a lifeline!

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops Fri 21-Jun-13 18:52:01

7yo - 7pm...is allowed to read until 7.30pm.

TrinityRhino Fri 21-Jun-13 18:55:13

gecko is 6 and dd2 is 8

they are into bed and reading for 15 mins by 7.30 on a weekday and 7.30 with a video in bed or 8.30 at the weekend

dd1 is 13 and for some reason still listens to me and does as she is told about bedtime grin
so hers is lights out by 9pm on a week day 10 on a weekend

TrinityRhino Fri 21-Jun-13 18:55:23

they all get up at 7am

lolalotta Fri 21-Jun-13 19:25:40

My 3.5yr old goes to bed at 6.30pm. grin

ouryve Fri 21-Jun-13 19:26:55

they're 7 and 9 and go between 8:30 and 9. DS2 only sleeps for around 9 hours, so any earlier is not fun, the next morning.

TripleRock Fri 21-Jun-13 19:38:51

My 2 yo goes up to bed as near to 7-7:30 as we can manage. But she's rarely asleep before 8:30 unfortunately. Sometimes nearer 9.

She is also up between 6-7am, so it's too late imo. However she still has a nap in the day (unavoidably, so the best I can do at this stage is keep it short and early). I'm hoping she'll go off to sleep earlier once daytime naps are a thing of the past.

On the bright side, she does sleep through.

rednellie Fri 21-Jun-13 20:59:46

My 15 month old twins and 3.5 yr old DD go to bed at 6.30pm. DD normally stays up for a bit reading, but never later than 7pm.

Doshusallie Fri 21-Jun-13 21:02:59

Mine are 6 and 8. They go to bed at 7.30-8, earlier if I have had enough.

notcitrus Fri 21-Jun-13 21:09:27

Ds is 4 nearly 5, and telly off by 7.15, upstairs to brush teeth by 7.30, so usually in bed asleep by 8, though that has slipped a bit recently especially when we don't need to be up the next day.

Dd is 16 months, goes up the same time, either put in bed before ds or fed to sleep just after, so by 8.

Both get up between 7 and 8. Mostly.

gintastic Fri 21-Jun-13 21:10:56

We go up for bath at 6pm, 3yo goes to bed after, usually 6.30. 5yo is allowed to go back downstairs and play on her DS for 30min, then bed. 6m baby goes down about 6.30. They are all up between 6 and 6.30, but I have to leave for work at 6.45, so it's not an issue, except if we want a lie in at the weekend! My husband takes them to the childminder for 7.30 as he starts work at 8. Upside to my early start is a 2pm finish so I'm there for all school pickups. I know they have a very early bedtime compared to many, but it works for us.

Bonkerz Fri 21-Jun-13 21:14:34

2yo @ 6pm
7yo @ 7pm
12yo@ 8:30pm

Feelslikea1sttimer Fri 21-Jun-13 21:17:15

13 & 14 and its 9 on a school night with half an hour reading and whenever they want on a weekend although its normally 10-10:30ish as they generally have to be up for footie, rugby etc...

smellsofsick Fri 21-Jun-13 21:21:58

Dd1, 2.5yo goes to bed at about 7.15 and usually gets a good 12 hours. We've had a phase of early waking but hopefully knocked that on the head now.

Dd2 6months goes at 7, wakes about 5.30am, gets fed and then gets up with DD1.

damnitdamnit Fri 21-Jun-13 21:28:46

DD1(5) & DD2(3) are in bed by 6.30 school night and 7pm on a weekend. DS1 (12wk) is currently about 9pm with us grin!
