From what age do you leave your dc alone in the bath?

(8 Posts)

That's it really.
And I don't while you go off for hours, I mean just while you do other stuff in the house?
Was just wondering <ie nosey>...

I read recently most drowning accidents in bath occur in under 4s. DD is 3, and I will nip here and there getting towels etc (not very organised) but make her sing so I know she is ok.

I will potter around upstairs while DS (2.6) is in the bath but he has to sing and shout all the time.

My youngest is almost 7 and I leave him in the bath while I'm downstairs pottering. I do shout up to him, but he's not that quiet anyway.

My DD is 2yrs and 2 months. I sit on the toilet after washing her while she plays. I actually enjoy the time with her. Sometimes somebody may shout on me and I will pop my head out the door and talk or grab a towel but don't leave her in her own. Mind you, even my 9r old DD will leave the bathroom door ajar a wee bit if she is showering so she can shout on me if she needs something........I guess it is just what you feel comfortable with and how capable your kiddies are.

Kinda depend on how load the kid is ... in our old house I could hear 3 yr old DS in the bath from anywhere in the house, non stop stream of chatter. If it stopped I nipped back sharpish to find him lost in thought just occasionally . New house I can't so well, I just putter in rooms upstairs where I can hear him. he gets on with pouring and floating stuff and catching and blowing bubbles.

thats LOUD rather than load, sorry.

My just 7 DS still likes me in the bathroom with him - I try my hardest to leave him and get on with other things, but he wants me there to chat too! Oh well, I guess soon he won't want to chat
