Turns out that I'm *that* kind of mummy....

... so before I had children, I used to watch House of Tiny Tearaways and nod sagely at Tanya's wise advice. When they were little, I read some parenting books and thought "of course, it's so logical" while admiring my realism at thinking "I suppose sometimes that's hard to remember if you're tired or stressed".

So how come I am now the kind of mummy who leaps up, shrieking in a hysterically high-pitched voice "YOU'RE MAKING A MESS, YOU'RE MAKING A MESS, YOU'RE MAKING A MESS, stop stop stop stop stop".

Why the need to say everything at least 3 times? Why the boneshattering shrill voice?

It's called 'being a mummy'. We all do it - don't we? [were is the worried mummy emoticon?]

Yes, I'm one of those as well. Not proud.

Aha - I am not alone.
Cringeworthy isn't it? Like you are watching yourself in horror from afar!

Phew. Glad I'm not alone. Yes, I can totally picture myself from outside and it's not pretty.

What makes it worse is that DD1 is only just 2, has chicken pox, is being really quite a trooper about it and wasn't even being deliberately naughty, she was just drinking a smoothie from a carton, got interested in the pictures on the back and tipped it up (cue smoothie all over the floor and shrieky out of control Fred Elliott style mother).

I've resigned myself to it now, and aim not to stop completely (impossible) but wherever possible to chill out just a little bit and shout a bit less. We must lower our expectations of our children, and ourselves.

I am also this mummy. I used to roll my eyes scornfully at the mummies on HOTT and also Supernanny. Now I am shouty, give you a packet of crisps if you stop crying, lie with you until you fall asleep, mummy.
