Woodcraft Folk. Really good for DCs who don't get on with the Scouts/Guides thing.

I know there are some good scout troops around but the waiting lists around here are huuuuge.

I found Woodcraft Folk and DS1 and DS2 LOVE it.

Heard of it, but know nothing about it!

It sounds a bit hippyish????

I can't wait for DS to go (he is only 21mo though!).

It is similar to Scouts/Guides but without any of the God stuff.

I had a brief overlap of going to Brownies and Woodcraft Folk when I was a child - but dropped out after about half of an awful Brownie pack holiday - we stayed in a building as we were considered too young to camp, whereas at WF kids that age (about 8) would be taken camping, though often with more parent helpers around. I was a very picky eater but I was force fed food I didn't want/like. At WF camps I ate what I ate and it was my lookout if I was left a bit hungry, but I was treated as someone who could make that decision. And on the Brownie holiday they read a Mr Man story to us every night - I didn't like them anyway but they seemed a ridiculous choice for children who were at least 6 and mostly older.

I don't know what older scout groups were like then or now, but definitely preferred the ethos of WF going into my teens - the allegiance to God, Queen and country never quite appealed either.
