My sister lives abroad and has asked me to get a game her DC (girl 4, boy 8) can share for Christmas. OK.... my only DC is 10 weeks old so I am not really up to speed on kid's games.

Jenga?

Four years is quite a big gap. How about the elephant that blows out butterflies that you have to catch (could it be called Elliefun or something similar?)? Twister? Simon? Any chance they have a Wii?

Have you seen Uno? it's a card game - v popular and available everywhere. We started playing it when DD was 4 and DS 6 and it has always been v popular. It's one of those games which as an adult I find quite fun to play with them (unlike farking "Pop to the Shops").

We like Jenga as well.

Definitely have a look at the Cranium games Hullabaloo and Balloon Lagoon - my 4 and 6 yr olds have loved them both for a year, they get them out when friends come round, and they would suit an 8 yr old without doubt.

Uno is good but the rules are too complicated for DS (4).
