If you know a 10 year old was smoking, would you tell the parents or stay out of it?

It depends on your relationship with them... but I would. They probably have their suspicions... cant they smell the smoke on their dc?

I think if i knew the parents at all i would say something if i didn't know them from Adam then i probably would leave well alone.

yes definately at 10.

IF they were older (16+) then I would have to think about it, but at 10yo then definately.

I'd tell them. Little lungs are still growing at this age.

My MiL works on the kiosk in a well known supermarket and says she often gets parents buying fags for kids as young as 11. Once she refused to serve a lady becuase she'd seen her give the fags straight to her DS aged about 11 the day before. MiL was told to Fing mind her own Fing business and hand over the F*ing fags. And then she got told off all over again by her own Manager.

Apparently it is not against the law to serve an adult with fags, knowing full well they are for a child.

I thought it was - it used to be at least.

same with buying alcohol in a bar - tis illegal to sell if you know they are giving it to e.g. a 15yo.
It's difficult to prove though, I think.

I would tell. I started smoking at 11 and wish someone had grassed me up as it may ahve stopped me smoking for the next 25 years.

I was shocked too Armadillo... but MiL got told off by her Manager for refusing to serve the woman.

Unless he was just saying to placate irate ranting customer and get her to go away asap.

I assume he was placating customer.

But he was in the wrong.

TBH if she got bollocked for it I would get her to check it out. It;s not fair to be bollocked if she was in the right. Plus legally she is within her right to refuse to sell anyone anything (unless it is for e.g. racist reasons) but this goes doubly for age restricted products.

The manager could have got done if she reported him to trading standards. I think you are allowed reasonable suspicion, though that can be difficult to prove - but if she alerted him to her reasonable suspicion, they may well be interested.
