washing powders

I'm sure I have posted this in completely the wrong place, so in advance I ask forgiveness!

How old does your baby have to be before you can use ordinary washing powders rather than the sensitive/ baby friendly ones? Please don't tell me 18 years of age .

I have never used specific washing powders for my children. I think 'sensitive skin' is over-rated.

same here. Have always ysed the same washing powder for us all. What difference does it make? You cuddle them against your own clothes anyway!

but I always wash the baby's things seperately to our filthy ones (we live on a farm) for the first few months until they are crawling around and getting filthy with us!

Thank goodness for that. We were told to wash all the families clothes in sensitive powders and I miss my old powders that smell delicious, so will go out and get some pronto!

I only used sensitive ones for a couple of weeks (and some of them were free samples!!). After that both lo's have had their clothes washed in bio powders/liquids along with whatever softner I like the smell of and their skin has been fine with it.

My DS1 had sensitive skin, and excema from birth up to about 18months. We had to use certain bath products (not necessarily prescription though) and non-bio powders. We have gradually reintroduced things, and he is now ok with everything I try and has been from about 7/8. He also used to have a sensitivity to sticking plaster, as have I, but has also grown out of that.

No offence, but I don't agree that sensitive skin is over-rated in all cases. However in my experience it can be 'grown out of'. Also, dont know if there is a connection, but both my boys, particularly DS1, were very prone to viral rashes as babies/toddlers, which was a very useful 'early warning system' that they were coming down with something!
