Worried my ds may have had measles

Just been watching gmtv, there was a little girl who has recently had measles because she hadn't had her mmr. She was one of 2 new recorded cases in manchester. Anyway, when ds was 6mo (now 10mo) after coming home from dubai he presented with a rash around his neck which within a week spread to his entire body. We took him to st mary's twice and he was seen on the acorn ward, the same ward the little girl on gmtv was on. About 6 different docs looked at him but no one knew what it was. He wasn't ill in himself at all, so no one was particulary concerned. The general concenses was that it was caused by his first try of wheat. After the week it started going and took another week to disappear. The thing that has scared me is that the picture they showed on gmtv of the little girl, it was the exact same rash. The little girl's mother said all the docs didn't think it was measles as it's so rare etc, exactly what they told me. I'm now worried about long term effects if it was. What should i do? As i said he's 10mo now, and appear perfectly healthy in every way. should i forget it?

If he seems fine now I wouldn't worry. In the days before the MMR many children had measles without any lasting health problems.
If it was measles not sure how things would work for him having the mmr though, might need some further research.

Yes just checked a blood test can confirm if he has had measles and should not have the measles vaccine part of mmr if he has already had it.

Measles is fairly obvious (according to my GP) and causes inflammation of inner eyelid and other membranes causing serious weepy/sore eyes.

I thought DS had M - rash started behind ears, had been ill/high temp for days before, rash spread rapidly down torso etc. He had German Measles.

I think if that many medics saw you LO and didn't DX it, you are probably safe to assume it wasn't.

The effects Measles has would have been immediate, the brain inflammation etc.If your DS is fine now,I wouldnt worry. As for the MMR he'll probably still need it as it covers the 3 diseases, and they wont give single vacs. Many children who have had single vacs, still come and have the 2 MMRs to be completely covered, that is the present advice anyway.I dont think we should "dismiss" the effects Measles had before the MMR,9 Children a year died of Measles. My DS had it at 2.5 yrs between vaccinations, and your DS maybe,I think we have both been very lucky....

Thank you guys i feel much better now. Just spoke to my mum and she agreed that he would have to have been very very ill to have long lasting effects. He didn't have a very high temp or weeping eye etc which is why the docs dismissed it being measles. It was just the fact the rash looked the same and it was the same hospital ward that the docs mis diagnosed it (at first) for the little girl. It freaked me out a bit! He should definitely just have his mmr as usual then?

probably not much help but I had measles aged 5 and then a measles vaccine aged 13 as part of a government measles catch up scheme.
