What is the dose for a 1-2 year old??

All my packs say 2.5mls (half a sachet).

My friend's say give 5mls - is her box newer than mine? Has it been revised?????

I'm no expert, but my box says 5 mls. Perhaps your sachet is a stronger concentration? Or out of date!

Mine is 100mg Ibuprofen in 5mls suspension and expiry is 03 2009......

Is that the same concentration as yours??

I had this query a few weeks ago - my Nurofen said one x 5mls, but the Tesco generic one I bought said one x 2.5ml (as did Calprofen) - despite all of them being the same concentration. I decided to stick with the advice on the Nurofen packet as DD had a pretty high temperature at the time. I will try to remember to ask the GP next time we need to visit.

Nurofen says 5 mils Calprofen says 2.5 which is bizzarre because the concentration seems the same.

From the BNF - ie link above but you need to be registered - with kiddies you can't go wrong with 5mg/kg for ibuprofen how heavy is your little one?--

So as you see - if you can't weigh and don't have a recent weight and LO is only just one then I would try 2.5ml (50mg) first as you can always top up - but if they are a big child or nearer 2 then they might need the larger dose.

Thanks for that - I don't know how much she weighs but she's nearly 17 months and average height and slightly skinny I would say. I just find it strange to have discrepancies on the the dosing and I wondered if it had just changed.....

try 2.5ml then and you can always give her the other half if there is no improvement after half an hour (it should have started working by then )

ok - the GP said this....

give 2.5mls as a routine dose but if the temperature is really high / they are really struggling, you can up it to 5mls safely as a one or two off as it were.

The same with paracetamol - 5 mls as a routine and then 10mls if needs be.

She is MUCH perkier today - thank you for asking! Pretty much back to normal and she is eating!
