hi,
i recently read a book called primal parenting by somebody called hygeia halfmoon.
some of the things in it i can agree with, but a lot of it is very extreme (unassisted birth, fruitarian diet for kids.....) and nutty.
i was wondering if anybody else has read it and would love to hear your thoughts!

Blimey - sounds even more far out than the Continuum Concept, which I tried to follow with DS1 until he was 4 weeks old and I realised I was actually going to have to buy a pram..

These books are interesting in an anthropological way, but can put an immense strain on you if you try to implement their advice in your normal environment!

Ah, she's the one whose 13 year old daughter got taken into care because Mum encouraged her relationship with and pregnancy by 25 year old boyfriend. Mum saw nothing wrong with either pregnancy or boyfriend, but claimed that the authorities had caused girl to miscarry by subjecting her to dangerous medical interventions such as ultrasound scans. Didn't seem to occur to her that the risk of pregnancy complications is somewhat higher in very young mothers and that this is another good reason for not egging your 13 yo on to get pregnant in the first place.

Also claims to be doing research on cannabis- I bet that's not research into the dangers thereof.

Oh, and she's the one who got caught eating steak while on a spiritual (and much-publicised) fast. She claimed she had a vision of a Native American chief who told her it was alright to tuck into the meat after all.

And there are still sites up where she asks her supporters for money.

All in all, she sounds hilarious (unless you're her daughter), but I think I might just use my own initiative instead when bringing up my children.

It's very easy to self publish nowadays with POD technology - I'm not against self publishing but obviously makes it easier to get your message out there in print whatever the message is

omg, cory, i had no idea!! (just looked it up on the web myself) - also read that her boy aged 12 couldn't read!
the book was published in 1998, so some time ago...seems very sad how things have turned out for her.
