Parenting

there are many threads here preaching a 'holier than thou' message, and I want to say.........

......I am not perfect, I am not the greatest mum ever (altho I really would like to be able to say I am), and I am also not the best person to ask for advice on feeding kiddies the 'perfect' diet........

there are many threads here stating how we feed our DC's, treat out DC's, raise our DC's, and for the most part we all agree....

but surely.....(and I speak a lot for myself here)

sometimes we also LIE!!!

I have my standards, and 75% of the time I try to stick to them, but 25% of the time I either fail, or take my time remembering and so parenting cana be a little slack in these periods.

BUT

when there are threads here, I give advice and sometimes realise that I have 'twisted' the truth somewhat in my favour......

I don;t give my kiddies as much veg as I claim at times....or at least...I find I offer said veg, just they refuse it and it ends in the bin. (Altho that is not the post I would add at times)'

I offer fruit each day....only 3 of them eat with any enjoyment, and the other 2 have suplements.

I give them chocolate every day, and icecream, and pudding (well, that comes under the icecream TBH), they have crisps too most days...........

I have smacked them (altho sinse being here more, I haven;t and even DD1 said the other day that she can;t remember me ever smacking altho I still threaten it for the 'count to three' threat. It works, as I have never got to 3...!

I even allow a take-away each week.....

Oh, and as for chicken.....no idea where it comes from, altho that will be changing soon as the taste is definatley different as I have tested

and...............I drive to school......

please tell me I haven't confessed all and am now going to be pelted with stones....

I have smacked and we go to Macdonalds. I don't use real nappies and my baby eats biscuits. I don't drive - don't know how - but I walk everywhere with a Bugaboo so am triply cursed

Thanks for starting the thread - very healthy to let it all out!

I already have heartburn, Psycho.

But hey, it doesn't help that I am also already craving spicy foods and pomegranate juice.

I try to be great too but most days it is split just like yourself.
I was wondering if i was the only one who allowed 'treats' each day and it is so much easier to give advice than to carry it out!

Am confused, thought walking was mark of GOOD MOTHER, not sure why.

My son will only eat SKIPS from his lunch box when we went to the zoo. Probably my own fault for a) not being a proper mum who makes pack lunch in tupperware box full of healthy carrot sticks and such like and b) having sometimes given him jars which clearly has made him into proper food phobic.

Oh and we pretend that the lovely jars of paints we bought him are for stacking up and loading on the plastic truck, rather than painting, because its too messy and involves lots of cleaning up.

Oh and apparently also bad for not jumping up and tending to our son the minute he wakes up with a whimper, even if he goes back to sleep shortly after.

Must stop self flagellation now...

My names Mo and I'm having a ciggie! I could throw something at you if you like. I've got a fruitshoot or a sausage roll, which would you prefer!

Good on you though. You are quite right and I would like to be in the 'not quite perfect, but trying my best' gang too!

expat....spicy food and heartburn are soooooooooooooooooooo not a good mix, but I feel you have worked that out for yourself....

Oh, to add, I also have a craft cupboard stuffed FULL of great stuff, and they are to use it only on mothers day when daddy supervises and clears up!!!!

+++ brownie points for your thread, Psycho. I haven't been on MN long enough to lie about my parenting but given the absurd lowness of my standards I'm sure that moment can't be long in coming....

We have pudding most days. In fact, the kids get quite sniffy if pudding is not offered.

And I drive to school half the time when really it is not very far at all to cycle.

But I'm going to stop there or it will be like when my friend and I compare notes and usually end up in a "No, I'M the worst mum" competition.

Psycho. We own and run a local nursery. If we go to the local playground I have to make sure the older Bubble boys don't use some of the choice words they've picked up from home school, as there will usually be nursery parents there.

Oh now, Nutella spread on bread is truely discusting. It is only ever eaten directly off the spoon here!

i think the 75%/25% thing is about right, and also that people tend to post a slightly idealised version of their parenting on here, but i really don't think it's done out of a desire to dissemble or make others feel less.

in fact, i think it's so much a given, so patently obvious, that i can never see why people get their knickers in a twist about 'holier than thou' threads, tbh. no-one's holier than anyone. diff priorities, maybe, different strengths, but not holier.

mmmm, chickpea madras and naan.

let's see, my kids get a chippy once a month.

when we go on picnics, we eat grub!

if it's a no camp stove place, then we're talking sausage rolls, hard salamis, etc.

if it's a camp stove place, then rice out of a packet and tuna or smoked sausages.

i love to bake and they get baked goodies every day!
