did you put your baby on their side to sleep despite recommendations.....

Does anyones baby seem to prefer laying on their side?

I know your not supposed to but Alex had a stinking cold and was choking everytime he was on his back as im guess mucous was running down the back of his throat etc and he couldnt bring it up. So i rolled a blanket and placed it behind him and stuck him on his side and found this helped in fact he settles alot better too as hes able to bring wind up by himself.Hes quite snug in his crib so no danger of rolling on his belly.I just dont know what to do for the best as they keep changing all the rules on this my mum said with my brother it was put them on their belly, with me on their side and now its on their back.

I did with both mine, they were more settled and omfortable like that when they were newborns. If you're able to keep an eye on him he should be more comfortable with his cold. Alternativley elevate the end of his crib and keep him on his back.

I have since he was able to roll over confidently (about 5 or 6 months) as he would try to do it when put to sleep on his back and wake himself up. Not sure how old your LO is, I wouldn't have done it before he could do it himself iyswim - it's been shown to reduce cot deaths and the risk isn't worth it.

When we were in hospital the midwives put DD on her side in case she threw up, propped up by a rolled up towel. We're co-sleeping at the minute and she usually goes onto her side herself.

He is only 5 wks and with the rolled up blanket behind him theres no room for him to roll onto his belly. And with my first as soon as he learnt to roll he would sleep onto his side. Sometimes i just feel a bit dubious about recommendations as they keep changing them and seeing ds is more comfy on his side i didnt know what to for the best as obviously his healt is more important.

my son always slept on his side, he refused to sleep on his back, and he settled a lot quicker too.

I just rolled a couple of blankets up to keep him snug and he was fine.

I know dd is 12 now and recommendations are very different now, but my MW suggested rolling a blanket up and putting it behind her back for that very reason!

I did with my DS from birth as he just would not settle on his back at all. I rolled a blanket up and put it behind his back. He is 7 months now and sleeps in all sorts of strange positions.

yrs, did too, ds had a lot of mucus after birth, was just sensible like you about propping him to make sure he can't roll either way, and we made sure to swap sides after every feed during the night.

My ds had bad wind and sleeping on his back made him scream, so he would sleep propped on his side and maybe later move to his back. That was until about 4-5 months and then it didn't matter how many times he was turned he always ended up on his stomach.

My first slept on his side even though advice in the 70's was to front sleep. My MW disagreed with the front sleeping idea and was proved right, eventually, with all the SIDS cases. My other three also seemed more comfy mainly side-sleeping. I used to make sure their lower arm was in front of them, not behind them, as this stopped them from rolling onto their front.

here in spain they recommend you put them on their side! We did use a mini bolster to keep him like that when he was tiny. And actually my ds was most happy on his front which we eventually gave in to as it made such a difference to him.

Put DD3 on her side to sleep because it means minimum amount of fuss for night feeding (she sleeps in bed with me but mainly because she had a bit of reflux and I couldn't even think about putting her on her back to sleep it would have worried me too much, just a massive no basically.

yes, because I bf-ed dcs lying down and co-slept with them. It was the natural position for them to fall asleep after feeding to sleep.
