My 4 year old ds has started wetting the bed (and our bed) on a regular basis....

...last night it was swimming in urine!!! And he doesnt wake up!!!!!!

We have tried limiting his liquid before bed but it didnt help (and I later read an article that said as much) and we have been "lifting" him for the past few weeks, but sometimes, as last night, we are too late.

Anyone had a similar problem?

My brother wet the bed until he was 11 and in the end my mum had to get one of those alarm thingies....

Pull ups wont help because there is too much wee and they leak, and they are not a long term solution.

Any advice gratefully received!

Could you wake him just before you go to bed and take him to the toilet to give him the chance to pee again (this may help train his brain to wake when he needs to go?)

Thats what we have been doing - "lifting" but it only seems to help about 4 days out of 7.

Oh sorry missed that

I think that it is very normal with boys - NHS Direct website says that you should not worry (from a medical perspective) until a boy is over 7 and has not mastered this, so unless you think he may have a bladder infection (does he complain that his pee stings ever?) then I think you may need to treat it as a phase and keep doing all the things you are doing (including lots of bed changing unfortunately, for the time being).

You can buy those absorbant night nappies/ pj's at tesco etc if you are really desperate.

THis article is good - it states that it is totally normal for under 5s to still need night nappies...
