How do I stop my son turning the TV on and off?

DS is 15 months and he does it all the time. I've tried everything, distracting, saying no, removing from the situation, but he still goes back and does it.

Besides being extremely irritating I'm getting worried he may blow the tube and we're too skint to get another!

I think the only answer is to cover the switch in some way but I dunno what the best bet is; an ugly bit of gaffer tape over it or sommat? And he could probably still get at it when he realises its still under the tape!

Advice needed - thanks!

consistently tell him no and take him away. Then distract him.

It may take a while, but he will get bored of this game in the end. Both my girls did it.

Bugger. I've been saying no for aaaaaaages!

He clearly has no respect for my authority.

Switch it off at the plug.

Pull the plug?

Or put the plug into a extension lead with switch, up high where he cannot reach.

If he tries it a couple of times and nothing happens, then he will stop it.

He will then start switching on and off your stereo or emptying your cupboards which will drive you mad as well.

He will get the message eventually.

or start opening up the fridge which is even more annoying.

Depends where the switch is - with DS we put one of those right angled transparent picture frames with the bit that holds the picture under the TV & the stand just covered the switch, but we could still use the remote.

With DD two years later, it was simpler. She turned the TV off while DS was watching Thomas, DS thumped her & she never did it again....

Not that I'm recommending that method....

ooh, fab idea rustydoves, will give that a go! (not the thumping one!)

We've just spent the week putting locks on all the cupboards and moving anything else out of his way. He's just started walking a week ago, which is awesome but he can now cause even more trouble....

I sellotaped the button on the tele down so that it was constantly on. Then my little darlings couldn't constantly turn it off and on, but I could with the remote. Try that.

we put a beer bottle lid over the button itself, so remote still useable, however, if your ds did manage to remove it, it would pose a choking hazard, like the picture frame idea, you should enter that as a tip of the day!
