Dummy causing rashing / sores around DS's mouth

He is 2.3 and has had a dummy for naps and nightime sleep since he was 10 months old but only recently has he developed horrible red spots and rashing around his mouth. I am putting it down to his dummy (and I do wash and rinse them very thoroughly and occasionally sterilise) but just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and if there are other possible causes?

It may not be the dummy. My ds occasionally has this (milder than you describe). That said, has he had a runny nose recently? Snot and plastic aren't a great combo

dd2 gets this sometimes when she sucks her lips... I plaster lip salve on her lips, and all round her mouth and it has always worked so far. Vaseline would do the same job I think.

no runny nose recently. Also he has all his teeth now but still drools a lot - especially with dummy in his mouth which is what makes me think it's the dummy - maybe?

he's gone to bed tonight with vaseline smeared around his chops - wasn't happy but we'll see if it works

My son is 2.5 and has this. I think it is related to the build up of saliva behind the dummy. My ds's rash seems to flare up and down, but I always smear it with vaseline. I tried fucidin cream from GP too, but it didn't seem to make much difference.
