Just wondered if anyone had been on one of these and if so - has it helped you?
or has anyone heard anything good or bad about them?

i have been on one, mainly i went because my 2 yr old (now 5) was very challenging after the birth of his brother.

IMO,the best thing i ever did.i am now so calm with them and can deal with tantrums quite easily.i understand alot more about how to parent and what is the 'best way' for me to discipline.

HTH

Its the only parenting course that has evidence to support that it makes a difference to families. Am going to train to deliver it this year, so am also really interested to hear people's experiences of it. There's a book that gives you a flavour of the content - by Carolyn Webster Stratton. ts sometimes just called the Webster-Stratton course.

Probably makes a difference what the course leader is like and who else is on the course. I have had some parents say that they didn't like their group. The evidence says that you need to attend at least 3 sessions to find it helpful, before that it won't make much difference.
Some people say its most helpful as a prevention method and more likely to be helpful if your child is younger and its more preventing problems in the future - I don't know.

Scorpio- am hoping that going to do the training will count as me doing it as I so need to learn patience. DS is a challenging 18 mth old, and showing all the signs of needing me to be calm and rational, not the tired nag that I frequently am !

Do post again if you go for it and let us know what its like?
