I'm so confused about baby clothes!

Okay, so this is my second baby so I really ought to know what I'm doing by now
... but alas, I don't!

I've been wondering if dd2 (11 weeks) is cold at night, as the room has dipped down to around 15C the last two nights. I dragged out my red book to look at that handy little tog guide, and they list baby grows and sleep suits separately, with totally different tog ratings. See picture attached!

I'm assuming what I call a baby grow, Cotton, footed, poppers all the way up, bought in supermarkets as packs of 3 (that actually tend to be labelled as sleep suits, to add confusion!), is what is is labelled as the 1 tog garment? I can't see one of those being equivalent to 4 togs.... but then what an earth is this mysterious 4 tog sleep suit?

Anyone know?

You can get fleece sleepsuits too..maybe it means those?

Googling 'sleeping suit' gives me those gro bags with arms and jojo maman bebe do a snuggler suit that's 2.5 tog?

They aren't supposed to sleep in bags with arms and 4 tog sounds high for a baby sleeping bag. Maybe they do mean a fleece sleep suit. I used sleeping bags for my 2 and at the time the maximum tog they had was 2.5tog. I think you can now get some at 3.5tog for colder rooms that get down to 12-15 degrees

Well she's currently in a long sleeved vest, cotton baby grow and a 2.5tog bag.... I looked at the bags with arms but having done some research apparently they aren't really suitable for overnight sleeping, and pose a risk of over heating, so by personal choice I'm steering clear of them.

I realise it's mostly common sense, and I'm quite happy with our current layers, but was just confused when I came across this. Perhaps they do mean the fleece ones, I'd not thought of that.... but 4 togs seems very very high!

I wasn't suggesting you get a bag with arms, you're right they're not recommended and I wouldn't use one either. That's just what a Google search brought up when I Googled what it says in your book. I have no idea what it means either!

Oh no smEGG I didn't think you were! I've tried a Google search and tilt keeps telling me that sleepsuits and baby grows are just interchangeable words for the same thing.... but the nhs red book seems to disagree. Very confusing!

Well perhaps we'll just give it a hopeful little bump then and see if anyone else can come up with the answer?!

I agree, 4 tog for a sleepsuit is a lot.
