2 year old night waking a help!!

My two year old go down to sleep on his own fine and has always slept 730/8 - 7am. For the last 4 weeks he has been waking up lots of times in the night I have tried letting him cry it out but he gets into a state and doesn't go back to sleep. He has a dummy and most the time I can go in lay him down with his dummy and he goes back off! Why is he doing this? He isn't ill or hungry and nappy is fine. I'm so tired from it. Any tips would be great!! X

Can he find his dummy himself?? Maybe put more than one in his bed and a night light on? Is he in a cot? Does he understand where you are?

He might be dreaming but not sure what you can do to help. Kx

Sometimes he does sometimes doesn't. If I don't go in straightaway he throws them all out of the cot and his comforter!! Maybe I need to be more strict with him?
I brought a new nightlight that he has on now and yes in a cot. He's not silly and although he hasn't many words he know exactly what I'm saying when I tell him it's nunights and I'll see him in the morning. X

My just gone two year old is the same. When I go in I always say to her 'what do you do when you wake up? You find your dummy, find your baby (she sleeps with 3! baby dolls) and you go back to sleep. And you don't wake up mummy'. I ask her to tell me the routine and she mumbles it back to me. I think she actually does it sometimes but expect it will sink in more and more.

Oh and when I do speak sharply to her she doesn't call me back in that night at all so a strict word is no harm. I think it helps her get on with just sleeping.
