Urgh I'm dreading taking my 3yo DD for her 2nd dose of the Men B jab tomo...

She's so aware now, and having had one jab (the first dose) I know how she's going to feel sad

HELP! How can I soften the blow?!

I know this won't help all that much, but mine giggled having his last jab... Maybe make it all fun and giggles beforehand and get the nurse to join in. Careful this might tickle..type of thing..

Good luck!

My approach was to be factual and reassuring: say that it will hurt a little bit but only for a very short time and explain that vaccinations stop you getting ill. Lots of cuddles and praise. Our practice nurse gave him a bravery certificate- and I took him out for cake afterwards. He was absolutely fine and no tears- and that was despite witnessing DS2 getting his 16 week jabs just before (and screaming his head off in the process).

This is obvious but try not to be anxious about it- they really do pick it up. My MIL made a huge thing about vaccinations and DH was terrified of jabs until about 25, when we needed some to go abroad. He had them and realised they were no big deal- but his childhood memory is of injections all being horrific because MIL kept telling him they were a big traumatic thing.

Thanks!

How long before did you let them know? confused

I think I told DS1 the day before. He doesn't like having things spring on him at the last minute!

Yes I'm debating whether I go for the casual over-breakfast "what we're doing today" sort of chat... or wait til later and avoid a day of worry (jab not til 3:30pm why!!)

I told my 2 year old on the way there I said she was going to have a little needle but it would just feel like a little prick and asked her if she was going to be brave. She watched it going in and never made a peep! Very proud of her smile
