Do children's teeth hurt before they fall out?

My 5 year old (6 in July) is complaining that two of his teeth hurt when he bites down. So, is it a job for the dentist and possibly filling? Or could it be time for them to fall out?

which teeth are they? (they generally fall out in a certain order it seems!).

Dd's did hurt when they got a bit wobbly especially when biting on hard food.

Not sure about my own kids yet but my teeth really hurt before falling out when I was younger - always worth going to a dentist though to make sure if they're causing a lot of pain or affecting eating.

well dd's bottom two (middle) teeth fell out first

very shamefully, I can't exactly remember which ones fell out next - think it was the top two - then the 2 either side of the bottom middles and then the 2 either side of the top two (these haven't fallen yet, they are just wobbly!).

She's lost 6 in total (and she was 6 in August. She started losing hers quite early). I think when the big permanent teeth start coming through, then can press on the milk teeth and it hurts when they bite iyswim.

It is the one next to his bottom middles ones. And one on top too. Hmmm.

I think all of dd's friends lost those bottom middle teeth first. Think there's also some molar movement around this age.

Has he maybe got a mouth ulcer or something? Prob best to get the dentist to have a look I suppose.

My DS who is 5 is complaining of the same thing so it does seem related to them losing their baby teeth.

IIRC they fall out in pretty much the order they arrived, so if you recorded them in one of those baby books you'll have a good idea.

Apart from the big teeth coming up below, they often work loose in 3 corners while still having a bit of residual root in the 4th corner, and I think it's the swivelling effect which hurts (dropped teeth have sharp edges underneath)

I will have to dig out his baby book tomorow and see what order they came in. I think I did record it as he was a first child.
