If you have to replace a teddy does it still count?

Odd question. My eldest gave his brother a bunny the day he was born. It's vanished. I've turned the place upside down and it's nowhere. I'm worried it got caught up in the last haul for the charity shop. Ds2 has been crying every night, and tonight I sat down and cried too as I'm sure it's me who's lost it (I'm also 31 weeks pg and just found out that my cousin's baby was born sleeping, so unusually emotional).

If I can find him a new one (and I can't at the moment), does it still count as the teddy his brother gave him when he was born? I'm agonising over this. I'm sure it doesn't and I will always be the mother who chucked his bunny from the day he was born SadSad

YES! If you can fool the child then it totally counts as the same teddy. Do you know which brand it was? Mumsnet often helps locate replacements in these exact situations :)

It counts, but more than that, you now have a lovely story to tell them when they're older! 'You cried so much we had to hunt for an identical one' Flowers

It was a moulin roty rabbit in blue and white stripy dungarees with a little bib.

I'm still crying about it Blush

Yes. DD has a stuffed giraffe from M&S that she adores. I managed to track down a duplicate on eBay and keep that as a spare now. It's saved my bacon on a good few occasions! I'm pretty sure she can't tell the difference so it's fine.

Though I have to confess that if the original went permanently missing I'd probably be a bit sad too.

Graceflorrick you are so right. I left my teddy at the dentist when I was very small. My parents told me I didn't sleep a wink, we went straight from the dentist to stay with my Aunt and Uncle for a couple of nights. Dad did the rescue mission when we got back home. It was a lovely story to hear. Teddy still comes to bed sometimes when I feel really down. And it isn't really a teddy bear, he is a panda bear.

Of course it counts! My DS has a cuddly rabbit thing which came second hand from a friend's son and was about five years old. DS became obsessed with it and I began to panic that it would get lost, I took literally months but one eventually came up on eBay and I paid a ridiculous amount for it. Anyway, I know there are two rabbits and DH knows there are two rabbits but to DS they are the same rabbit! If you can fool the kid then absolutely it's the same one.

I'm sorry about your cousin's baby by the way, and I think it's probably that that's upsetting you really Flowers

goo.gl/images/SO64tQ like this, but in blue?

Your links look very different to each other

Thanks crayfish. Yes, but it's easier to focus it on the bunny than what they're going through I suppose.

0010001 - it's the exact outfit though. Or rather, the dungarees are that colour and material and that's the bib it's has. And head. But they're not the right kind of rabbit at all. So more like yours with their outfit, colour, bib and head.

Sadly not. It just has dungarees and a bib.

I can't even find it on French websites.

Yes it does! My ex mil bought ds a bear the day he was born, it jumped out of the trolley in asda one day and luckily we tracked one down.
However, on a holiday to Crete the following year, teddy number 2 jumped out of the buggy in the dark and despite re tracing our steps we never found him.

At this point he was no longer in any shop in the whole wide world ( felt like that ) and I wrote to TY who manufactured them and explained our predicament, they very kindly sent us Alfie number 3 all the way from Germany totally free!
Ds is 13 now and still secretly loves him and knows the history behind him. It still counts.

Thank you so much 00100001 - that's so kind of you!!

Peanut that's so lovely of them! I'm going to get DH to email Moulin Roty tomorrow (he's actually French), maybe they still have a malingering bunny somewhere! But he's over 4 now...

Sadly not Dilli. I wish it was that one, I've seen a few of him and I could buy several to avoid a repeat!

Very best of luck op! My ds was almost 3 so you never know.

I was prepared at that point to pay anything as long as I could get him back so their generosity was wonderful and they even included a personal letter to ds, it's definitely worth a try, I was at my wits end and didn't think we would get another.
Fingers crossed for you :)
