Potty training problems...

My DS is 2yr 6m and we have hit a bump in the road regarding potty training as he is practically refusing to wear pants or understand the use of them.

If we are having a day at home he will be bare bottomed all day and use the potty whenever he needs a wee but he hates me and DH trying to put pants on him. He gets quite angry/upset about it and the few times he has actually wore them in the house (we have him in just pants and a t-shirt) he will just wee/poo in them instead of using the potty.

I have explained to him (age appropriately) that if he needs a wee or poo then he can take his pants down or ask me or daddy to help and then he can use the potty, but he just won't. I don't think he understands that they aren't nappies and he can't just wee and poo in them which is fair enough as I know he's still young, but I don't know where to go from here?

I was thinking that pull-ups should be the next step but most people I've spoken to have gone straight from nappies to pants.

Any advice or suggestions?

Let him go pant less until he gets it

Or put him back in nappies and try again later

Don't stress it and make it more hard work than it should be

Exact same thing happened with my DS. I used pull ups when out of the house and told him they were pants and he still needed to use the potty/loo. Was hit and miss for a few days and then just got it and was in normal pants within a week with no accidents and dry for naps and overnight.
