First holiday . . .

So I'm taking beloved 3 year old on holiday for the first time. I've heard reports that you shouldn't allow children to wear tshirts in the pool because they can cause sunburn to escalate at a higher rate (something to do with the air between skin & cloth causing a massive increase in heat). However, I've now been googling this and can't find any information to justify my opinion. Is this a red herring? I have a UV suit, plus a rash vest for her but she loves her swimming costumes and know she's going to want to wear these. I'm a bit confuddled!!!

And we're going to Crete so it will be hot. Thank you in advance for replies

My little boy is 5 and has been abroad 3 times now, first time when he was 3. He did wear it suits but at times would wear swimming shorts and a normal t shirt at the beach/pool. I never had a problem with him burning from this. Obviously I was being responsible with how much sun exposure he got and took care to keep out of the intense heat of the middle part of the day. If you are being sensible you'll be fine, have fun.

I live in the US. It's hot here in the summer and we go to the pool often. All the kids (girls included) wear rash vests in the water. Some wear normal tshirts I assume.

Sometimes see them without in the morning or evening, but not during the day. My DS has never burned through his vest.
