My ds is almost 5 months and I think he's ready. When did yours start?

6 months.

What makes you think he's ready at under 5 months?

When he grabbed some food off my plate and ate it - 5 months. He sat up very early which I think was a contributing factor.

6 months here too. Weaning is a right faff compared to breastfeeding. I wouldn't rush in to it unless you have to.

DS was about 23 weeks. He was clambering over me and taking food out of my hand so I decided to let him explore. I did baby led weaning and I think it's better if you start before 6 months because you know it's going at their pace then.

5.5 months and 6 months, we then did baby-led weaning. Are there signs being ready? Sitting alone, able to bring toys to mouth, etc. It's better not to rush it as they take much better to it if absolutely ready. If past 6 months they can have anything you're eating too (as long as no/low salt and avoiding honey to 12 months) meaning you don't have to make special baby meals!

Oops - to clarify - I meant if you choose to start before 26 weeks, I think BLW is better. Not that it's better to start early. I would have waited but he was very insistent and it just seemed really silly to wait for an arbitrary date when he was clearly interested and ready.

6 months as recommendations tell you too.

UK recommendations still say 6 months? In the Netherlands they recommend 4-6 months for the prevention of allergies. We started with purées at 4.5 months and moved onto BLW pretty quickly. She's been an excellent eater from a very young age in terms of fine motor skills, only eating til she's full and range of foods she'll eat.

UK recommendation is 26 weeks but no earlier than 17 weeks. So effectively it's 4-6 months but 6 months is better.
