We made a list of all the places that DD (DS was happy to move) would like to visit in /near the new place - new playgrounds, new swimming pool, parks, big children's library, find a new place to do dance etc etc.

Found pictures of many on the internet and showed her,
then made a big display using post-it notes on a glass door in new house and picked one off to visit at weekends / after school as often as we could. Both she and DS were allowed to specify one 'thing' that I HAD to find them - dance for DD, football team for DS - and I absolutely prioritised that even amongst all the moving and unpacking and chaos.

it really focused her mind on the 'positive / new' things rather than the 'bad' things about moving.

Whatyousee - absolutely. We couldn't do anything before we got here either - but just looking at google maps, searching for e.g. parks, library, museums, playgrounds, leisure centres and finding Internet pictures of them really helped.

They didn't need to be big 'booking in' things - just places to go for the odd afternoon after we moved.
