I have my level 3 in Children and Young Peoples Workforce, and i'm currently between jobs, my sister has just got a new job and doesn't have childcare. She asked me if i wanted to do it and i would love looking after my nieces as a job but we don't know if its possible for me to be paid to look after my own nieces? Like i said i have the qualifications to look after children i am just struggling to find a job.

I was on an information session for potential childminders a couple of weeks ago and this came up. Yes you can be paid and you don't have to be a registered childminders as you are family. But she can't claim tax credits for your care.

Provided you don't have parental responsibility you can, but you'd have to be a nanny and care for them in their home. I'm sure you would have to be registered with ousted to childmind them in your home as you're taking money.
