Perect prep machine?

I'm looking into buying bits and bobs for when baby gets here in August and have seen this is on sale in a few places. I have heard stories from people who swore by it and said it was amazing. Has anyone used one and are they worth it?

I havent got one, and I'm sure it's useful to those that have but I couldn't bring myself to spend at least £60 on something I can do with a kettle myself. You can get 6-8 weeks cover of formula for that price!

I think someone is looking to get us one daffodil but I would be willing to pay myself if it's worth the time. I was of the same opinion as you but have heard lots of things about it and just wanted to ask people here, as I value the opinions

I didn't get one because I honestly don't think they are clean enough to make formula for tiny babies. All of that water breeds bacteria - yuk!

There are quite a few problems with mould I think.

We got one second hand on eBay, good condition just needed a new water filter. I think it's great, you can make up feeds quickly and one handed while holding the baby.

If you're not 100% decided, why don't you wait and see if you will be breast feeding or using formula. If the former, you won't need the machine.

There's plenty of "gadgets" that could make having a baby that little bit easier. Just be careful you don't get too sucked into them all.

We mixed fed but didn't bother with one. I found I could cool the bottles down pretty quickly either with a jug of water in the fridge or held under running water so it didn't seem necessary. SIL swears by hers though.

Definitely recommend! I couldn't get my head around formula without either the perfect prep or pre-made formula. If that makes me thick so be it more like lazy.

Ours is still clean as a whistle. You get through the water really quickly so it's not like it ends up stagnant

I'm a foster Carer and most of us swear by them. I find them great for poor feeders as the milk temperature is so consistent from them. I've never had any issues with Mould or upset tummies in the 3 years I have had mine.

Do your homework about the safety. They are not sterile.

After BF didn't work out for me it was an absolute god send! When I was crying making up bottles of formula I did not want to be faffing with kettles and cooling and stuff.

You go through the water so quickly it never sits around long. If you're worried about that just fill it a bit at a time. No sign of mould either.

There's concerns about whether it actually work like the manufacturers say - Tommy Tippee have not released information to back up their claims that the machine kills all the bacteria in the formula powder. You can always check that the hot water it dispenses is he correct temp to kill the bacteria in the formula powder, if you're so inclined.

Could not live without mine! My original machine broke and I sent it back to TT who then sent me a replacement..... longest two weeks of my life waiting for the replacement

Don't worry Ive read enough about baby wipe warmers and other ridiculous toys! I won't be overloading, I'm just interested in these. I do intend to breastfeed if I can but I also know this may not work out 100% so am just doing some research. I have read about mould issues and such.

It's all changed since my nephews were little. We pre made bottles, warmed them in the microwave... Oddly enough none of them were sick and grew up fine! Lots to get my head round.

The thing is, pre-made bottles are fine as long as you use proper boiling water to make them - so that mightn't have changed.

Bendydick, I was looking into the PP for when I go back to work and start giving bottles, but I don't think I'll buy one just to test it...

But I've heard you shouldn't use boiling water - there's a fine line between too hot destroying nutrients and too cold not killing bacteria that may be present which is where the 70 degrees comes from I suppose.

There's honestly too much drama about babies these days. A market had sprung up where it was never previously required.

Yes, certain gadgets can make your life easier, but yes of course people do perfectly well without, too. Get one if you want one, it'll make not a jot of actual difference in hindsight.

Sorry, yes - if the water is over 90℃ some nutrients will be destroyed. 70℃ or more is required to kill all bacteria.

In fairness I've always breastfed for night feeds so I don't have any personal experience, but I imagine there is a world of difference between making up a whole bottle and just pushing a button at 3AM...

I breast fed for 6 months, we swapped to formula as I was going back to work. DH did about 3 nights feeds, had enough, bought one and set it up on the landing!

I don't know how people do night feeds without boobs or ready made formula (expensive and no good if baby won't drink milk at room temperature.)

So even from a breast feeding mum, buy one anyway
