night weaning?!

My ds will be 10 months old in a few days. He weighs 29 pounds. He doesn't eat or drink that much during the day. My health visitor is insisting we cut out bottles at night. Is he too young to start night weaning? He was between 2-4 times a night, sometimes needing a bottle. Sometimes not. He's happy and healthy and his weight doesn't bother me as I believe it'll even out when he's moving.

If he's not eating much during the day but is waking 2-4 times a night, aside from this being exhausting for you, it sounds like he has his night/day a bit muddled up. 1 wake up for a feed, perhaps another feed/cuddle wake up, but 4 seems a lot. I'd imagine your HV is trying to encourage more daytime meals and milk which will have a knock on effect as he won't be so hungry at night. Does it worry you that he doesn't eat much during the day?

BTW, I wouldn't attempt to wean at night first, I would attempt to increase day time food/milk and he might naturally wean. A feed at night at 10 months is quite normal (if I can remember....)

Yes ^^ try and get him to eat more in the day and he might drop night feeds himself. DS is 10.5 months and eats loads in the day (2 bottles and 3 meals and 2 snacks) and has dropped night feeds of his own accord over the past month or 2. Fingers crossed for you, if it's what you want to happen!

Thankyou guys. He doesn't seem to like to eat solid food too much though, some days he'll eat all his dinner etc and the some days he'll only have a spoonful. I try get him to eat all through the day but he picks and chooses

Not sure what the general opinion is on mn these days regarding baby led weaning, but have you tried just giving whole foods? He's not going to 'need' more as he's not been having much anyway, but some babies just don't like being spoonfed and like individual tastes. My ds took to blw brilliantly and ate really well on it, my new baby ds likes purees being shovelled into his greedy little chops so they're all different.

Or try Dipping foods, such as veg sticks dipped in mince or bolognese, or bread sticks dipped in melted cheesy sauces with brocolli whizzed up in it? He will get the hang of dipping pretty quickly if he sees you doing it and its easier than a spoon.
