6 week check

Topsy34 · 11/01/2016 13:31

I went to see my gp for 6 week check (at 7 weeks) but today I've had the hv asking if I can go to clinic for 6-8 week check, I've said I've seen a gp but she said you have 2 checks....seems daft and can't see anything in red book about 2 checks.

I asked at my gp surgery today for more info on vaccine as I just want to read up first, so wondering if the surgery has contacted them.

Any ideas?

It's pretty standard that the baby has a 6 week check with the HV as well as the doctor.

The HV will check weight, length and head circumference to ensure there are no problems.

If the GP did this himself though then I don't think there's much need to see the HV as well.

Doctor did weight but said they don't do length or head circumference anymore. Just seems such a waste of my time and theirs!

I might not bother, can't see what they will do that the doctor didn't 4 days ago...

Yes, health visitor does the height, weight and head circumference. Also chats to you about how things are getting on, sleep, feeding those kinds of things.
The GP check is more of a physical health check.

I loved having my baby checked though - any excuse to show him off to someone Wink

The hv I had with ds1 was really judgemental and criticised all my choices, so wary to see one again.

I've just spoken to her again and told her about my previous experience and she suggested I go to drop in and if I want the reviews she can do it then.

Oh no, sorry about your bad experience last time! I hope this one is different
